Yes, we know. "Higher standards" and all...

Gettleman has indeed matched everything that Hurney accomplished, but you may want to consider that this happened in his first three years.

When a guy can do in three years what it took another guy eleven years to do, that guy is better.

and don't forget, did it while cleaning up that shitfest of contracts he inherited from that other guy too, thereby setting us up to possibly be a long-term contender, while keeping us well within our cap for what seems to be the next few years.

If for nothing else than that, he had me at hello....

Incorrect.

The salary cap was maxed in 2011 and in 2012 to build around a young foundation. The only player that needed to have their contract terminated to get under the cap was Gamble in 2013. The cap situation was set up to carry over key young vets to have for the rebuild around the drafted players knowing they would be here for 4 to 5 seasons. That would make the cap free up in 2015 and 2016. The cap situation could have been run by a 4 year old in 2013 and 2014. It was the complete ineptitude of the 2014 off season that screwed the team and set it back. This team could have pushed for a SB in 2014 and sealed a SB in 2015 if the front office handled the off seasons correctly.

if gettleidiot rode kuechly and cam to a super bowl then hurney rode jenkins, smitty, morgan, the entire OL outside of gross (i think), mint, ruck, buck, and moose to his one and only super bowl appearance

fair is fair

Oh, come on. I mean it's not like Marty Hurney had all his best success early when there was a good core of players left to him by George Seifert but then only managed one playoff season for the rest of his career. That can't be right.

Can it?
