Bi-polar opinion of Shula.

I'm trying to look at this as not a blindfolded fan or someone who got carried away with last years achievements.

For me it's so bizarre there is no middle ground with this guy, on one end you can say he had the highest scoring offense without his #1 receiver and Tedd Ginn as his leading guy, he was lavished with praise from fans, fellow coaches and media guys for his style of offense!.

Then you have the fans that's blame him for lack of points, lack of execution and the inability of others, I've never been high on him from his college days to the bucs, to most of his time here, last year was a shock to me to see us blow teams up and score how we did especially with the average talent we got on offense! I think a lot goes into an offense not working, it's not as clear as always it's a bad call or a bad throw! Sounds obvious but it's true.

Look across the board of the whole thing, the qb has one of the best deep balls in the league, his accuracy isn't the best when it comes to short/intermediate throws, he does too much or tries to sometimes, the tackles! Whilst there serviceable and good at some aspects of there role it's clear they are only limited stop gaps, any opposing rusher with a little bit of speed or has a trick to his game they are just rabbits in the headlights and dominated! The receivers..

It's been mentioned before we seem to draft guys who cannot gain seperation on a consistent basis, whether it be poor route running or whatever it isn't that difficult to blanket our weapons! Funchess this year so far, benji today when doubled, Olsen mostly doubled, ginn rarely gets any kind of seperation and his catches are even contested with a db or with his brick hands! In no way am I a fan of Shula and I liked the idea of Norv Turner a few years ago but I myself cannot blame him when it doesn't work for our offense, accountability goes across the board from coaches to players.

Today for me the protection was pitiful, the receivers were easily locked down or didn't look interested, and cam held the ball to long made poor reads or forced certain throws. And there were no adjustments made to correct all that was going wrong.

Today collectively the whole offense failed as it did in the SuperBowl, I just cannot myself see how one man can be a scapegoat.

Yeah the players didn't play too good today, but shula did them no favors with braindead play calls that never fit the situations the offense were in.. The vikings defense were swarming all over cam today and yet shula still refused to call quick passes or screens to nullify the pass rush.. he is just not fit to be an OC.

holy wall of text.

answer:  people attribute too much to him after wins, and realize their hype in losses.  thus the pendulum of emotion.  myself?  i've always said he's a 13 year old driving dad's ferrari.

Shula here is he product of the talent he has. If you look back at his TB days, his Alabama days etc it was all about inconsistency and a lack of scoring. Just ask @JeremyIgo about those glorious days down in Florida.

Last year it just happened to click, execution never failed (except during the big game), and sometimes he got bailed out with big plays (ala Cam scrambling during terrible play calls)

It still shows when the execution isn't there (even just a little) that his game plans are terrible, he doesn't adjust during half time, and it seems like the type of coach that thinks "well if it doesn't work the first two times, it's gotta work the rest of the game" type of guy.

I would be interested if Cam ever gets a OC that actually builds a game plan around his talent and the talent around him....let's hope it happens soon....

To answer your question OP, to me what you're seeing is Kelvin Benjamin. This happened in 2014 year too

Last year defenses didnt double or move their coverage to one player. With Kelvin, teams are trying to take him away and Shula hasn't adapted, yet. And I say yet, cause Shula will adapt "eventually" sadly, but what about those games when they mix up the coverage. Safety shift to him, then they don't shift to him on some plays. Vikes adapted and Shula as usual didn't.

Shula is not that good, never been. I really don't see how people can think he is. Without Cam as his QB, man please. He should stick to being a QB coach. We can do much better at OC. I watch the Pats do plug and play at QB and get mad

The play calling was pretty bad today.

Embarassingly bad today. Shula hasn't really showed the ability to adapt when the game plan is poop and the opposition is feasting.

After the half, I knew we lost when the same poo that wasn't working in the first half reared its ugly head on our first series.

Shula gonna Shula.

i like that he gives cam control of the offense but some of his play calls just suck . why cant we get the ball out quicker and run shorter routes and how come he doesn't run as much play action plays as he did last season? he has to stick with what works . our offense was the best last year no reason to shy away from the poo we did last season.

More like idiots on here attribute too much blame on him when the players don't execute

Tell me what about today's game plan was good? The 10-15 yard routes that take time to develop with 6-8 man rush?

The passing play in our own 5 yard line?

The lack of screens and crossing routes to counter the rush?

Or when we actually rushed the ball the first half with CAP and averaged pretty good yards.

Sure KBs penalties took away a TD and a first down, but today wouldn't have changed with that.

Cap had one 15 yard run....and then was stoned over and over and over.  We had zero run game.

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
