What's up with the bye week records?

I think a lot of people here would say that Ron Rivera is a better coach than John Fox.  And I don't think there's anyone who thinks that Fox's coordinators were better than Ron's either, although a Henning/Shula debate could be had.  But Ron's post-bye week record is 1-4, while Fox's was 6-3.  Fox was also 5-4 in season openers, while RR is 2-3.  So basically, when the two coaches had more than a week to prepare for a game, Fox has a 11-7 record and Rivera has a 3-7 record.

It just seems odd to me that this pattern exists, and I'm wondering why that is.  Any theories out there that could explain this?  What did Fox do that Rivera doesn't?

It's one of those things that Rivera just for some reason never seems to consistently improve on, like his in game management and use of the clock.

You think the guy finally gets it, then it's back to the same poo. One step forward, followed by two steps back. Doesn't look to ever change at this point.

Don't forget to include the Super Bowl.  Two weeks to prepare, horribly outcoached there as well.  Ron is a great players coach, and a good guy to have in the locker room.  But in terms of preparing strategically and managing a football game, he's unimpressive at best.
