Special teams

i'll be happy if lloyd can actually do what he was brought in to do...keep the other team from being able to return kicks.

i'd also be happy if we could keep punts from being blocked....news flash! teams know that if they blitz our punt they don't have to have anyone back there to return the ball! they might just try it again.

i'm still waiting on goodson to show his stuff. the captain needs to show up as well.

i was looking at how well the cowboy special teams have done. they have a kickoff specialist as well. he had 3 touchbacks against the Bucs but only 1 against the giants. it turns out they are just as bad about stopping returns as the panthers are.

something that is also pretty good is that we are actually a little better at returns so far this year, esp. punt returns. the captain is 6th on avg punt return yardage with 12.5 and 11th on total yardage. not bad, imo. meanwhile dallas is getting 2.3 yards per punt return. they have also fumbled twice on returns, once on a KR (felix) and the other on a PR.

both teams have blocked a FG attempt.

this is one part of the game where we might have the advantage. advantage may be due to us just not being as bad as the cowboys but i'll take it.

I said it last year, and I'll say it again now that Baker actually proved(again) he takes his ******* time to kick the ball.

I don't care if you can punt it 800 yards, it does no good if you don't get it off before being blocked.

i would love to see us replace him next year. get someone who is going to have a lot of hang time and put it inside the 20.

i place most of the blame on that punt return for a TD on baker. there was no hang time on that just straight and long.

    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
    • This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.
