Vernon Bulter vs Hunter Henry

1st round pick are immediate impact players that helps you win games. Although Vernon Butler has a chance to become a solid DT,  I believe Hunter Henry could have made a bigger impact with the weak OL in pass & run blocking while providing another target and 2 TE for Shula to run his offensive scheme more effectively.

A first round pick doesn't have to be an immediate contributor. Aaron Rodgers wasn't a contributor until his 4th year. Clowney didn't do much his first two years but is now their defensive centerpiece with Watt hurt. Butler could be a 16 game starter and impact player as soon as next year, or the year after if KK is tagged. Seeming like KK won't get a big deal here and Butler is his replacement. Way too early to start comparing the Butler and Henry draft picks and to say that we should've taken Henry over Butler. It may turn out that way, but way too early to judge.

Even if Butler pans out as a player ....something would have Star/KK for us to have actually gain the value of hitting on a first round talent

?????

Not true as much as the d-line rotates, having all 3 could work out well.

Keep in mind if KK is signed for 5-years, he will be in his 30's at the end of the deal. The panthers could transition into Vernon after that seeing as Vernon is locked in for 4 years and the panthers have the option for a 5th year.

gets back into the whole double trouble debacle.  You end up with talented investments spending too much time watching football play.  Rest they don't need.  You don't waste first round picks on depth.

Same goes for Shaq.  would have rather have drafted at a position where would could of maximized hitting on talent

If you are going to complain that a Defensive Coach, and a Defensive GM take a DT in the first. You may be complaining for a long time.

Butler gets plenty of snaps. But hey, let's play a guy like Fua instead. Butler makes our Dline better. Not sure you can complain about that. But I am sure some will, and have, tried.

Oher, Norwell, Kalil, Turner, and Williams. With Remmers, Scott, and Gradkowski as depth is a damm fine group. Just because this season didn't work out, doesn't mean the potential wasn't there.

You folks complain just to complain.

Didn't realize DT was the only position on a defense.  Got no issue drafting D.

Always had an issue with the Double Trouble model of building teams.  Always been against overstacking investments at one spot

I too would've personally preferred either Henry over Butler on draft day, but don't think it's an issue moving forward. Butler will be a solid, if not more, DT for awhile.  As mentioned, being able to rotate everyone in and out for now, as well as the insurance he provides if KK isn't in our longterm plans is important.

I personally like the Butler pick because I think, once he's up to speed, will allow sub packages of where all 3 players are on the field with KK likely kicking out to DE. Star & Butler will occupy a lot of space inside and KK will be a mismatch opening up gaps and pushing linemen back with brute force.

HH would look nice opposite Olsen, but I'm not ready to say that Butler wasn't a wise pick for the future of the franchise.

Yeah, let's use ancient history to dog a very solid, and rising player. Drafting Stewy, although a great player for us, was stupid. Also, that was Hurndog, not Gman. We haven't seen Gman enough to have a solid grasp on what his philosophy actually is.

Butler helps keep our Dline fresh. He is a much better pick for what this team wants to do. He gives us flexibility, and we lose very little, if anything, when he is in the line-up.

With how things have gone the last few years, bringing in a top flight LT was a pipe dream. Now, if things go as they appear to be heading. We could have a decent pick, and plenty of money. IF they don't address the LT this off-season, then I will start to harp on the FO.

We didn't have a high enough pick, nor any money. Yet folks think we should have still found a way to upgrade the LT spot.

    • It's a QB driven league, which means that all of the parts surrounding the QB have to be in order. No OL? QB isn't going to have time to throw or be able to hand it off. No weapons? Won't matter how well they play, can't catch it for them. Bad coaching? They're not the ones designing and calling plays. Football is one of the ultimate team sports. All 11 players need to be in sync rather than one player being dominant (imo). Hell, even with Tom Brady, not a single one of his rings came without a top-10 defense on the other side of the ball or a top-10 OL in front of him. I can understand people having lost patience with Bryce, especially starting off on the wrong foot for the third season in a row. That's not an issue. The issue I have is with folks being intentionally misleading and attempting to tell other posters what they're not allowed to talk about. Considering how often Red has claimed others have done this to him it is interesting at best, disingenuous at worst for him to turn around and do the same.
    • Sir. You have been shouting down any and all valid skepticism and criticism of our #1 overall pick for 2+ years running. You spent all last spring running cover for him and complaining about derails and toxicity only for us to open the season with back to back blowout losses largely contributed by Bryce Young's abysmal play. You have engaged in the exact same formula this spring. You've spent the last two months rage pooing my posts like an angry ten year old even while you've had me on ignore just for speaking the truth about this QB room and our offense. We opened the season with yet another blowout loss this time to a previously 4 win team. And here you are still trying to play the victim while weaponizing the reactions. Any suggestion of you being victimized by anyone else here is a complete and utter farce. You know it. I know it. Have yourself a great day.
    • If he went to Clemson he would be off the board. Still hard to believe they have never drafted a Clemson player.
