DG's draft success so far

Foster had his moments, but what really puts that pick in perspective is that he was chosen over Clinton Portis. Sadly, there are other examples of picks like that.

What you also have to factor in with Hurney's draft grades are the trades of future picks, like a future first for Everette Brown and a future #33 overall for Armanti Edwards. And that's not even accounting for his (thankfully unsuccessful) attempts to trade up for Jimmy Clausen.

And then there's things like the entire 2011 draft outside of Cam being gone in something like three to four years. And that wasn't the first draft to disappear in short order.

Bottom Line: Outside of round one, Hurney was mediocre at best, and frequently terrible.

Well Spoon, Foster and Wesley all after Hall of Fame Peppers in that draft.  They weren't spectacular.  But hitting on Hall of Famer and following it up with 3 good role players isn't a F.

2010 and 2011 were his weakest overall.  Hurney IMO got worse in all aspects as he went along.

Hurney first few years here were strong.  He just failed once he got a decent core in together.  But he built it up right

Gettleman has been just as bad so far, or worse.

Roleplayers or JAGs (people use to hate when I called James Anderson that) are VERY important.  You need them surrounding your few studs.  Probably are biggest issue is we don't have enough decent roleplayers right now around our studs

Last year Panthers had several veteran role players that are absent this year.  I believe the lack of that veteran presence has much to do with this year's dismal record.  Just can't seem to win the close games anymore.
