My point exactly he isn't a consistent double digit sack DT like a donald or Atkins.... he's a 4-7 sack guy and that's simply not worth it... Butler can replace that let it walk spend big on Berry and JPP or D Jackson....

I'm not sure what position Dave would put more than decent money at currently but he sure as hell will not overspend out of desperation.   You got to take emotions out of it when it comes to spending the cap wisely.  Spend top DT money in a slightly above average DT is not a wise investment.   JPP will be a consideration most definitely but he won't overpay that's for sure.   Like it or not it's how it is with Dave and I agree with it mostly.   I would rather have 4 really good DTs making good money than 1 really good but over paid DT eating up my budget.

Dave's also never had what's Likely to be 60 million in cap space if we got a two for of JPP and Berry for a combined 25 mill plus but it returned our defense to elite is it overpaying?

It will come down to contract length and guaranteed money.   Both of those guys are good but are they the future until we hit on their replacement in the draft?   Are they just going to be hired mercenary's for a couple of years?  Would they be willing to play that role? Lots to consider and there's not a clear cut answer.

Honestly, I wouldn't pay him any more than the 5th best DT in the league. I wouldn't have paid Norman any more than that either, and I would have let Hardy walk in hopes of acquiring Veldheer. But that's just me. Only arguably the very top like Luke Kuechly would get paid top money.

Short, per a league source with knowledge of the situation, won’t be quickly signing the franchise tag, if the team applies it. Short may not sign the tag at all, which means that absent a long-term deal before July 15, Short may not play in 2017.

Looks like someone saw what KK said and had to get on the phone and make a correction.

No player quickly signs a tag in today's NFL.  So is Dave going to cut him too and pull the tag when his agent won't bite on Dave's first hard offer?

Ehhh most players usually sign franchise tags within a week or 2.

It's all about balance and asset allocation.   Dave has only been able to allocate Cam and Luke so far.  Greg is a core piece also but he was already here and it was a no brainier to extend him.  The rest will sort itself out.

Gettleman removing the tag may have set a bad precedent. Norman got to walk and make big $$ because the Skins are dumb enough to splurge. KK might refuse to sign the tag in the hope of getting his market value from another team.

I bet good money Dave won't tag him if he even hints at holding out.  Dave won't go there again.  He has a backup plan already and you can bet he will make sure he has enough depth this time before he has to cut bait with KK.

Boy what a dumpster fire this whole thing turned into over the course of one year. It was only 365 days ago we were the one seed, dominant, vegas favored pick to win the title.  We just ran through our schedule and would wreck Arizona to win the nfccg

Now we have the 8th pick in the draft, a former MVP who is not on good terms with his career choice, an MLB with concussion issues, an all pro home grown CB discarded, and a DT (who last year was second only to Aaron Donald) maybe looking at the same fate.  All the while, our one pass rusher played out of his mind and will likely get overpaid in FA by someone else. Our other pro bowl linebacker has thrown around the "R" word and we have enormous question marks at both offensive tackle positions with a coordinator (still employed) who can't adjust his game plan to take the stress off those turnstiles.

KK is good but he ain't 15-17 mil a year for 5 or 6 years good.  He wouldn't earn half of that at his age and level of play.

It's already been shown on here that one of the top DT's in the league, Donald, had 8 or 9 sacks. KK had 6. KK, with his last 2 seasons of work, has shown he's worthy of being paid as a top 5 DT.

I think he will be here. First of all the tag on Norman ate up much of our cap room last year. This year it won't make a huge dent. Secondly if he lets KK walk after we led the league in sacks and doesn't sign Addison he risks his own position if we go 6-10 again because he went cheap. Plus imagine the fan reaction, which usually is ignored as irrelevant but when it cuts into merchandise, alcohol and food sales when nobody comes to the game is a big deal. With attendance down despite the PSL sellouts, and all the above sales not being shared with the league it makes what will likely be a 2 million yearly difference between the two sides a small price to pay as long as the guaranteed money is reasonable.
