KK for Berry?

And Berry's also been hurt a good portion of his career.  Short is a 3 down pass rusher that makes a difference on every single play.  A safety just can't have the same impact every play especially if he's hurt

Of his 7 seasons Berry missed 2011 with a knee and 2014 with cancer - other than that, he's been more or less completely available. That is technically a 'good portion of his career' but it's not like he's injury-prone or missing games year in and year out.

That said, I don't really disagree with the premise that KK is more valuable.

Terrible trade for Carolina for a myriad of reasons.

1) KK ranked as #2 Best DT last year and #3 ranked DT this year.

2) Eric Berry is a Top 5/10 Safety

3)  Elite DTs are much harder to find and are more valuable than Elite safeties.

4) We would be left with Vernon Butler and Star Lotulelei who ranked as one of the worst DTs in the league....

If Star Lotulelei ranked as one of the worst DTs in the league last year, somebody's ranking system needs tweaking.

On Berry having enough value for KK. Pass rushing interior linemen are a premium that 29 other teams would give there first born for! Berry is a great safety don't get me wrong but just not enough to trade KK for!

G-man has shown, and said, in the past that this is his line of thinking as well. Pass rush trumps secondary.

The "pass rush vs coverage" debate has raged for decades and will probably continue to do so as long as football is played.

Rivera comes down on the side of pass rush as well. And honestly, no shock that Gettleman does as well given the Giants recent history.

Theoretically yes, but it wouldn't ultimately be a great deal for us. An elite pass rushing DT is much more valuable in this league than an elite safety. Just wouldn't happen.

I'm not sure about this situation though. Berry isn't any elite safety, he is Ed Reed type once in a blue moon type safety. If you think about it how many elite safety's in the league do you know of right now? Its rare to be elite in that position. So in most situations I agree a good DT is more valuable than a good safety. But Berry won the chiefs a couple games last year.

Again, literally beat the Panthers, Falcons, and Saints by himself.  Marinate on that.
