Not really. There are differing views within the league and within the fan base. DG clearly shares mine to some degree. A lot of teams make bad moves where they terribly overpay a player, and honestly the Redskins may end up once again being one of those teams with Josh. Was Josh good last year? Yeah he was solid (Bradberry better by PFF's marks, not a perfect analysis but worth noting) but worth all that money for a zone corner? Doubt it and I bet they cut ties with him before the deal is up.

Well we were terrible WITHOUT Norman, and probably would have won a handful of games more with him.   I think people downplay Josh.  The Redskins just didn't use him right.     He fit our system because he's great in it AND he's great.    That's how it works sometimes.   You can plug a QB into the Patriots system and they can be good, but then you have Brady who is both.    Bradberry got much better but Norman+Bradberry would have won us more games.    And if you share DG's views, well, that's not really working out that great right now, so we'll see this year.     There's a balance for sure, between never spending when need (DG so far) and spending stupidly (Redskins definitely).

For the record I at least wanted to franchise Norman and stick with it for a year, at least.

Redskins use him the same exact way we did and run a similar zone system. Difference is, ours is much better and our defensive coaching, DL and LBers were better than the Skins' are. Helped make Josh look good. And yes he is very good here and is a baller who I'd have loved to have kept. Fact of the matter is he just isn't worth nearly what they're paying him. We had a 2nd round rookie come in and look just as good and a 3rd rounder improve quite a bit and look better than Josh did his first 3 years.

Our system is designed for the secondary to reap the benefits of the rest of the team. Of course, we struggled early in the year because of injuries in the secondary and poor safety play and young guys adjusting but by the end of the year our secondary was no worse than it was with Josh in '15 when Peanut was hurt.

Yes Josh would've helped us win more games last year without a doubt. But that has absolutely nothing to do with committing $15M/year to him for 3+ years. We'll have Bradberry and Worley here on 2nd and 3rd round rookie deals for the next 3 years, and I would bet they both end up looking just as good as Josh did for a year and a half here.

Valuing positions in the secondary as much or more than DL, LB, OL is completely ridiculous. Thank god DG agrees. Seahawks had success with tremendous talent in their secondary on cheap rookie deals. Now that they're paying them what they are the rest of the team has suffered and they haven't looked anywhere near as good as they were before.

Maybe, what DG values is still up in the air, we'll see.   Cam and Luke were easy choices to sign.
