Today's 5th round and beyond tackles end up being next year's starting guards.

Norwell was an undrafted guard, and according to some he's now like top 5 in the league, lol.

There is only 1 Andrew Norwell in the league your not gonna stumble on to it that much

Also there is difference in talent we are talking about JAG vs Elite.

We don't need another Chandler scenario.

Looking toward the future, Trai and Norwell are the onky long term answers on the line. Kalil won't be here for long and we have no Tackles worth talking about. You gotta find a way to keep to keep Trai. You have to. Now, for Norwell he hasn't been a pro bowler but he's not bad either. And, we used him awfully lot on run plays for Cam. You keep Norwell but at a reasonable price.

Not even a question.

Like someone said before I got to it...this is how the Saints did and Brees small ass would go UP the pocket with those sick G's they used to have.

Plus we are supposed to be a running team....two Pro Bowl caliber guards....yup.

Especially since Shula's dumb fugin ass keeps calling right up the middle plays.....makes it an extra yes.

Part of our problem last year was exactly as you have laid out. We were trying to be a passing team, when we were supposed to be a running team, and we didn't know how to run when we did.

The NFL is now a passing league, and we are behind the curve. Until we fix our tackles, our guards don't matter that much. Yes, Turner should get an extension (maybe this year) at around 9-10 mil a year, easy. Norwell is not worth that, and to argue that he is is just laughable.

Until we get a coordinator that knows how to coordinate, WR 1s that give a crap and don't give up on routes, and Tackles that don't get Cam killed, I'm not spending more than $4-5 million on interior linemen that aren't Pro-Bowl caliber on any other team.

Oh, I never said pay em both that.

Turner at 10 and Norwell at 6 is what I said...it's in the other thread though.

We're just a million off there so I don't think it's a thing honestly.

And the rest isn't debatable I obviously agree with that.

He is and he should get paid like a top 10 Guard. We are building the OL similar to the Saints where the interior is more important.

I don't disagree at all!  If Trai is All Pro, then Norwell is about .60 of Trai's contract.  While we all love Norwell, I'm not sure how good of business it is to tie up THAT much in two guards.

The Jets and Bears each have two Guards at 8/yr and 6/yr

We will probably be in there too honestly.

Well, our difference is that we have a Franchise QB, something both those teams lack and may overspend/draft to fix that.

And all that would have been reasonable until.....

Chiefs signed RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to a five-year, $41.25 million extension through 2022.

The deal includes $20 million guaranteed. In average annual value ($8.25 million), Duvernay-Tardif's extension makes him the NFL's fourth-highest-paid guard behind Kelechi Osemele, David DeCastro, and Kyle Long. A 2014 sixth-round pick out of McGill College in Canada, Duvernay-Tardif has settled in as a solid-if-spectacular starting right guard in Kansas City. "LDT," as he is nicknamed, earned solid pass-protection grades from Pro Football Focus last year, but struggled in the run game. He turned 26 earlier this month.

When I saw this contract, I knew we were going to have tough time keeping both Turner/Norwell. Just like I knew KK would never sign here long term after seeing  Fletcher Cox sign for 6/103M. But to keep both, we are probably going to have to commit close to 20M to the OG position. That's a tough sell. Love them both which Is why I see both sides of it. Prices are going up. Wait until we start discussing Star. That will get ugly.

A lot of the best run teams have 10-16 mil a year on their guards.

The Steelers have: David DeCastro @ 11  mil
                               Ramon Foster   @ 3.5 mil
                               Chris Hubbard   @ 1.8 mil

As an example. Bell is good but it ain't all him. DWill was running there too and their 3rd guard is @ 2 mil basically.
