I was referring to blocking mostly. Stew is still one of the best, if not the best.

He is still one of the better backs at yards after contact (if not the best when looking at his entire body of work).

But, getting back to blocking, it's not overrated, it's necessary. Stew knows his assignments, and I seriously doubt Fournette's gonna buck the odds and be up to par from day 101, much less day one.

Many forget that Stew was the worst blocking back in the league in either 2009 or 2010 as rated by PFF. It takes most guys a few years to become good blockers.

Less consequences to blitzing when the other team knows that our go-to move to counter blitzes is to keep the RB in to blitz. Now that LB or S who would be responsible for covering the RB are free to blitz. Same with utilizing the #2 TE almost exclusively as a blocker. I dont understand why we didn't simply run more tackle eligible plays. We essentially had a receiving TE playing tackle eligible anyway. Teams started countering these types of moves by simply blitzing the guys who would've been responsible for covering these players. They could do that because we didn't have any receiving threats that scared them other than Olsen. If you feel comfortable single covering our receivers, you're free to send the extra blitzers to counter our extra blockers.

IF this talk of three QBs potentially in the top 10 is accurate - and I think that's a big "if" - it gives credibility to the reports that the Browns are torn between Garrett and Trubisky. I'm sure they see Garrett as the top talent in he draft, but they've desperately needed a QB for decades now. If you're not going to have a shot at one at #12 or a reasonable trade up (like to #8 for instance), then you have to seriously consider taking that QB at #1. Look at the Texans with JJ Watt. Probably the most dominant DE since Reggie White and they've got nothing to show for his career because they don't have a QB.

My thoughts as well.

QBs rise and I think 3 go first round.  And maybe more.  The Cal QB could be a bigtime surprise pick in round 1.

Trubisky
Mahones
Kizer
Watson

I think they are all locks for the first round. Three in the top 10 is...optimistic, but could happen.

And when we always take deep drops and look for long passes, it is far easier for the delayed blitz to get there. I agree, which is one reason why I'd like to see us get a real TE2 who can be an outlet. I'd also like to see us use the RB as an outlet. Most other teams have their RB flare out when he's not needed to block. Ours will continue to look and help. In the play I mentioned, if Stewart goes into the left flat (where he looked to help), David has 0 chance to get to Stewart, but he knows that all he needs is Stewart to look away and he has a free run with no worry about Stewart catching a pass.

God, I still want Shula gone. 8 receptions for our starting RB in 2016. Effing 8.

Great post - and this is one of the primary reasons I want the Panthers to find a way to add McCaffrey.

A good receiving back - that can also legitimately run between the tackles - puts so much stress on a defense. It's not a coincidence that both SB teams last year feature their RBs in the passing game.

It's time to evolve.

2 before us has been my thoughts for months... just my opinion though.

Every year QBs go high.

Glennon was brought in to give a rookie 12 months with a clipboard (will likely still take over late in the year)

I'll bet that target is Trubiski... sending other teams (jets or browns) into a trade up frenzy.

Cam just sucks at short passes. I just don't think he is a big of fit as everyone thinks. He just throws bullets within 3 yds and the guys can't catch them.

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
