Draft Day 2017

Recommended Posts

I can't remember a draft where we (the huddle) were so spread out in our opinions.

Week after week front running draft pick names have changed.

When this mess started Guys like Soloman Thomas and Myles Garrett were long gone to us and Fournette was moments away from signing a contract with us.

Recently I saw a mock where we selected Thomas and other where Garrett fell all the way to the Tampa Bay Bucs and the majority of Mock drafts has Jacksonville taking Fournette.  This has been done a couple times recently but

My sequence of players I would like to see us draft is.   We will have our pick of two of these players. Draft day we'll find out which two.

Garrett

Thomas

Adams

Fournette

Howard

McCaffrey

Allen

Hooker

Lattimore

I ruled out Barnett, until we met with him. But he is a high character guy, a leader and a high motor producer. He faced the same talent as Garrett and came away with a better overall resume on, arguably, a weaker team (nobody is calling A&M a powerhouse, though)

Furthermore, I hear "love of the game" questions about Garrett

If say:
Adams
Fournette
Thomas
Barnett
Garrett
Howard
Lattimore
Hooker
Allen
McCaffrey

We have met with the top 4, hence Garretts slide... and DGs comments about wanting someone who hates to lose.

Lattimore due to the word that we want to play more man.

Hooker and Allen low since we didn't meet with them.

McCaffrey low because... well, that's a long debate... but let's just call it scheme fit.

I personally think Thomas is a better prospect than Garrett. He's a lot more valuable since he can play inside and outside if needed. But that's just me. I see Garrett as a one trick pony, I don't see the Julius peppers comparisons though. Other than size, he didn't show up against huge programs and really feasted on weaker schools. Barnett was better statistically. I'm guessing his hype is more of a fascination over his freaking athleticism than his production.

Tennessee was loaded on paper but suffered a catastrophic spate of injuries which included 5 star defensive linemen Tuttle and McKenzie, as well as soon to be 2017 draft picks LB Reeves Maybin and CB Sutton among others.

And Fournette no where to be found.   This must be the same folks that voted for Hillary.  Out of touch with reality.

They're just throwing stuff out there at this point haha. Hard to see us going Qb in the first or second but 3rd or later? Why not? I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on QB and Tackle every draft. Good ones are hard to find.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
