"Joe Mixon and Amelia Molitor, linked by an altercation resulting in a vicious punch, met face-to-face in Oklahoma City last week.

The private meeting — detailed by a Friday afternoon joint news release — centered on moving beyond a disturbing 2014 encounter that ended with the Oklahoma running back punching Molitor.

During the one-on-one meeting, Mixon apologized to Molitor, who said she “greatly appreciated his apology.” The news release also announced a civil lawsuit brought on by Molitor was resolved and dismissed, with the terms of an agreed settlement remaining confidential."

“I am happy we were able to bring the lawsuit to an end,” Molitor said in the statement released to multiple outlets, including the Tulsa World. “Joe and I were able to meet privately, without any attorneys, and talk about our experiences since that night. I am encouraged that we will both be able to move forward from here with our lives. From our private discussions, I am satisfied that we are going to put this behind us and work towards helping others who may have found themselves in similar circumstances. I greatly appreciate his apology and I think the feelings he expressed were sincere. We both could have handled things differently. I believe if we had a chance to go back to that moment in time, the situation would not have ended the way it did.”

"Added Mixon in the statement: “I’m thankful Mia and I were able to talk privately. I was able to apologize to her one-to-one. The way I reacted that night, that’s not me. That’s not the way I was raised. I think she understands that. Talking together helps move us past what happened. I know I have to keep working to be a better person, and this is another step in that direction."

1. Please note that only ONE side of this issue in the settlement of this civil lawsuit issued an apology.

2. Both statements by the separate sides were mature and measured.  Though the "bad act" on which this lawsuit was based was horrendous, this should mean something.

3. I have no doubt that even though the terms of this settlement have been kept confidential, a financial settlement (and maybe even a continuing medical care settlement) was part of it.

4. Brilliant move by his legal team in getting this cleared up and out a week prior to the draft.

5. Does something like this put him back on some team's "boards"?  Because I can honestly say at this point that I'd rather roll the dice on Mixon at the top of the 2nd round rather than spend a vast amount of 2017 draft "gold" on Fournette in the Top 10 picks.  (P.S. I don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell of this happening, by the way.)

btw this does nothing to repair his rep

I've been one of Mixon's biggest critics, but I disagree here.  I think it does.

Does it wash it clean?  Not at all.  But as repair work, I think it will be and is very effective.
