Running Back Depth Chart

So after what was one of the more anxious/interesting draft nights (personally was hoping we made the move for Fournette), I am fully behind the selection as I defer to the ''shorts''. So now that he's a Panther what's that running back room going to look like...

Stewart

McCaffrey

Whittaker

Artis-Payne

Simmons

Do you guys think Gettleman will draft the future bell-cow back to replace Stewart as I still don't see McCaffrey as a 20+ carry back in the NFL.  I think we got a heck of a dynamic player to help bolster and improve our offense, but I still think we're looking for the heir to Stewart.

McCaffrey most closely resembles Whittaker from a build/rough skill set comparison so is he going to be the odd man out when it's all said and done, or will it be CAP?

Rivera wants his double trouble back and is going to get it all in this draft. We'll take a power back later in the draft to complete DG's double dip of the year. And hopefully that guy will turn out much better than CAP in this deeper class.

I don't understand why people think CMC can't be an every down back. There's plenty of evidence littered all over this board proving he can run between the tackles. I don't see us taking another RB in this draft.

Yes, he can run between the tackles but can he do it 25 times a game? That was the issue with Reggie Bush and McCaffrey is about the same size.

I think he could too. But is he better utilized as both a receiver and running back? Have him on the field 100% of the time, but on earlier downs put a power back we draft (Stew this year and maybe next) at tail and have McC in the slot.

Well Curtis Martin was 5'11" 210 pounds and he had a pretty good career running between the tackles and was a direct comparison from DG. I just think people have a mental block of what a 25 carry back looks like.

Every down back, and workhorse are two different things, I think he's shown he can play on each down. But in the NFL we're talking 15-20+ pound difference between defensive players in the front seven, and they're still every bit as fast.

So I'm just thinking out loud here, I don't see him as someone we can ride for a full game as the lead back, I think he can have a lot of success as a runner, but as a workhorse in the NFL I still just don't know.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
