Shaq develops behind TD. We still use Shaq in our base 4-3 defense and now hopefully more in the nickel. 

Vernon Butler is learning behind Short and Star. We run a heavy defensive line rotation so he will be very important this year. 

 

Exactly.  I'll never understand why people continue to whine about something that is said and done.  Regardless of whether the "right/best" decision was made.  Move forward.

I think that we now have one of the best nickels in the game, and will have 2 LB's in more often. Shaq and TD will split those reps just like we rotate the d-line to keep everyone rested. Come 4th quarter, we still have fresh legs on D.

but he didn't, Fug the Giants, move on. I wanted Collins so bad it broke my heart when we passed, AND he's playing lights out at position we needed (still do, Adams is awesome, but a short-term answer). I didn't say Shaq was a safety. I said TD was a safety in college. They were both a little undersized for NFL LBers though and scouts were talking about switching Shaq to safety in the NFL. The point is that they are similar players athletically.

Landon Collins was one of the worst during his rookie season, and he went to the opposite end of the spectrum last year.

Never got the argument. Shaq Thompson will prove just good down the road.

TD was effective for the most part last season from what I remember. I alao would like to see Shaq get an increased role though. I guess the fandom part of me doesn't want to see TD off the field in any capacity.

I can concede to this. As I said, I was a huge Collins fan in the draft and SS hurt us last year. Kurt was out of position and Tre was just flat out bad.

Looking back at snap counts nobody has played more than TD over the past 5 years and it's not even close. He rarely comes off the field. Over 90% average of d snaps played over past 4 seasons. Nothing short of incredible for a guy who's come back from 3 ACL tears. 

I still think we will see plenty of TD he may just sit an 1-2 extra series a game.

Because of his covering ability right ? That doesn't matter. He'd play just as good of a nickel OLB as he could a MLB. Could he be a Bobby Wagner ? Probably but not right now.
