When you have to take away one out of four seasons he was here to make your point, it's not a good point.

lol but if you just take out that 17-2 season tho

yea just take it out. it doesn't matter. like it doesn't count really. just get rid of it. then you'll see my point.

That doesn't tell the whole picture at all.

Take away the 17-2 season (which was an abnormality) and the Panthers went 26-24-1 under DG, so average.

That 7-8-1 year was a fluke regarding the standings and anyone argues for DG based on that year is just kidding themselves.

The team has been wildly inconsistent. I see all these comparison to Belichek and how he runs the Pats, well the Pats also don't go 17-2 one year and then come back and go 6-10 the next. If you're going to run a team like DG does you better have a player that can carry your team to victory like the Pats do when poo starts to hit the fan. While Cam can be that guy, he's not yet.

You can't just take away a 17-2 record lol. That was arguably his best offseason with FA vet acquisitions.

That's fine lets just take out all of Hurney's poor seasons as well and just focus on the the 11-5 and 12-4 seasons he had because that's what we're doing for Dave.

We went 6-10 last year, 7-8-1 and got lucky with a berth, and went 12-4 on a Hurney built team outside of that 17-2 season.

If people want to praise Dave for that then I guess I'll praise Hurney for going 11-5 twice and 12-4 once in his otherwise unspectacular career.

Literally the same thing I'm doing with Dave (excluding the abnormalities) the rest of the fan base is doing with Hurney.

I hope it was his best because we went 7-8-1 and 6-10 with his other off-seasons.

And I still credit the coaching staff for that 12-4 season. Giving DG credit for a team that was mostly not his players.

Not disputing that just saying your post was dumb

Hardly, it's pointing out that outside of that year we have been average.

I guess that's lost on a lot of people. I mean I could include the overall record as a whole and you would think that we were averaging 12-4 seasons but in reality we had one amazing year, two years of poor play, and one year where the roster was already in place for him to succeed.

And before I get called out for not giving him credit for the 12-4 season, I also won't give credit to who ever the GM is for this coming year if we run the table cause it won't be their team.

DG maybe had what, three years left before he was going to call it quits anyway?

One way to look at it is that we are able to get a head start on the search and prepare for the future. The team is setup to be pretty solid for the next few years. It would take someone completely incompetent or just hell bent on causing a mess to screw that up the roster that is in place.

The team is not in cap trouble (something DG was phenomenal at) and overall the roster doesn't have too many holes. If ultimately Olsen and TD only have three good years left each and we have to pick those players or DG, I'm going to go with the players.

In my opinion this team is built to be successful for at least three years, if a new GM can come in and continue to manage the cap while also turning the culture of the team around then we won't miss a beat.

The firing is being blown way out of proportion because at DG's age he wasn't going to be around much longer anyway.

If that was the case why not do it before Beane left?

That's a million dollar question and one I don't have an answer to obviously.

JR is old and incredibly shortsighted so maybe he didn't think about the contract extensions until recently and by then Beane was already gone.

So at that point it's Gettleman or the players.

That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Call it an anomaly, poo actually stuck to the wall that time, what ever. But you cannot just disclose it from the record, it happened... think the scientific term is 'x factor'... or is it y?

Regardless, Hurney at the helm is a step in the wrong direction..

Last time Hurney was here he signed enough players to bloated, ill advised contracts, to screw up the Panthers cap space for four years after he was canned.  Under the circumstances Gettleman worked miracles with the team while having one hand tied behind his back.  Now that we've finally gotten our cap under control, look who's here to muck it all up again.

In addition to that Hurney was incapable of drafting decent talent consistently beyond the first round (when he hadn't traded it away the previous year to move up for a sure fire thing).

Hurney will turn out to be a one man wrecking crew if he is allowed to do anything more than fetch JR's biscuits and coffee every morning.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
