Bersin is the only player on the roster who gets bashed for doing his job making good football plays. Somehow it's his fault that people can't beat him out of his job. It's impossible for him to win here.

I think people are suspicious of a Wafford (same as JR) player getting ridiculous touches when there are better options, especially with a meddling owner like JR. Reminds me of the Armanti Edwards move, clearly hometown bullshit this FO is known for.

Don't get me wrong Bersin has his place, he is clutch 3rd down and maybe Red Zone but that's IT, that's his limit and his worth, that is clear.

What's not clear is why us gets bubble and screen passes, returns punts and goes deep every now and then. Seems like favoritism to a lot of fans so that's where the hate comes from.

So, let me see...it's up to Bersin as to whether he makes the roster. Then, it's his call to make himself active for a given game. Bersin also has to tell RR when to put him on the field, and tell Shula to call his number, and make sure that Cam doesn't audible out of the play, and even that isn't enough. After the snap, Bersin has to ensure that Cam doesn't lock onto someone else, even though he's wide open with nothing but grass between himself and the first down marker or goal line. Tough job requirements you have there.

What I see is a guy who stays prepared and in shape, and who perpetually fights hard for even a chance to get on the field. When he does, he gets separation and is exactly where he needs to be. Even though he seldom gets first team reps, and never knows whether he'll even have to dress out, he's ready. When his number is called, overwhelming odds are, he makes the play, undoubtedly fighting thoughts and pressures that this might be his last time on the field, and even if we're ahead by twenty, he still must make the catch...period. The fact that his targets to receptions ratio is better over the last three years than any of our current starters, and the fact that he's in a solid second place in first down receptions, is little consolation, and apparently, unnoticed by anyone.

Yes, its on the staff to bring in better comp. , He does have a couple 1st downs on 3rd &long, he can find holes and runs crisp routes(he's a cam fav too). All that has given the Panthers are a total of 24 rec in 6 seasons. 24.......24 total rec in 6 six years. Muh god that's bad, it must be some sort of record. Those numbers are that of a career blocking TE specialist. He's also been given what seems as 10+ chances to be a Panthers another one for the record books, hmmm that maybe not all be on the staff.....

You're entitled to your opinion, even if it's misinformed or lacks foundation, but, he's a #5. You cannot compare raw numbers, but rather, have to go on percentages. It simply isn't up to a player whether he's active, on the field, and whether his number is called. If he's not on the field, he can't rack up anything, good or bad. Using your line of thinking, we need to release roughly one third of our entire squad based on raw total production numbers. Furthermore, base it on what the player did with the opportunities given to him, and I'd venture to say that half of them don't have his stats. And don't tell me the sample size is too small, because it sin't, with the possible exception of last year, when he only had 2 of 6. Toss that out and use '14-'15 only, and both of his numbers go even higher.

Please try to find another bersin-clone in the league. I tried, he's alone for some odd reason. No other player has been resigned(same team) more than him in six years. No player in six years have given so little and remained so long. I understand 5th WR, he's been waived 8+ times and NO TEAM ever put in a claim. He's never even worked-out for another team during his unemployed period, why? Sooo many records, I bet JR has already made his statue before TDs'.

Why do you guys care if the dude plays or not?  He's got a sweet gig and earns his pay when he can get on the field.  JR wants him here and that's that.

One of these other rookies is gonna have to ball out to bump BB cause that's the only thing that will get his spot.  So far that hasn't happened.

I know we have lots of great talent evaluators here on the forum, but instead of opinions, how about some facts, which only one other poster has provided. I took a look at Bersin's targets, receptions, and first downs compared to a couple other WRs on the roster, and a couple TEs since Bersin often plays like a small TE in terms of some of his routes, and what he's called on to do. Sure his snap count is far below the others, but that hurts him, and certainly doesn't skew any conclusions you might draw from the stats in his favor, for what I hope are obvious reasons.

Nice data, thanks.

I'll always remember my shock when I logged into SportingCharts after the 2014 season and saw Bersin near the top of the NFL in 1st Down % - he had 13 receptions (on 20 targets), 11 of which he converted for 1st downs.  That spells clutch for me..

In 2015 he caught 9 of 11 targets.  Few targets, but he makes the most of them usually.

Well said. In that respect I think he is the perfect PS player.

I'm not sure he can go on the PS any longer.  I'd have to think he's accrued too many seasons / been on the PS too many times, but the PS rules are quite confusing.

In fact, last year I think we cut him and did NOT send him to the PS, but then called him up when he was needed.  It's very possible that we could try to do the same this year... it's not likely he'd be claimed by another team.  His value is pretty much to the Panthers alone - his DEEP knowledge of our offense and his rapport with Cam.  As long as he stays in shape, we could possible call him up off his couch if needed and give the spot to another player....

    • Brian Baldinger on NFL Network (per Tim Weaver on Panthers Wire): "I feel like they're building a monster on that side of the ball right now and I think that's how they have to play," Baldinger stated. "They have to play like they can shut teams down this year. I think it's on them to really guide this team right now." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2026/05/22/panthers-nfl-offseason-defense-brian-baldinger/90215555007/   So, do you believe him? Today, May 25, I do believe Baldy without any evidence otherwise. I think it's much more likely for our defense to take another marked leap (right into the top 10) than our, basically, bottom-third offense. In my mind, Lee Hunter is a literal and figurative huge addition up front, and right behind him is perhaps our biggest exclamation point on defense: Devin Lloyd. Lloyd's experience and track record of solid production should be the anchor of our defense that should help lift the floor of the entire unit. No more getting gashed on runs, eh? But, as important as Lloyd will be, the most prolific addition to the defense could be Jaelen Phillips.  In my opinion, whether or not the Panthers can demonstrably show that the defensive squad, and perhaps the team in general, is actually ready to assert itself as a perennial postseason presence lies within its ability to credibly rush passers. Phillips was paid handsomely to produce results. Now I know that most of you are probably thinking that sacks are the key. Moreover, I'm not one that is even going to tell you that his pressures are the key (you know, since Phillips's pressure rate has been highlighted over perhaps pedestrian sack numbers). The key, at least in my mind, will be the marked growth of Nic Scourton and/or Princely Umanmielen. I really do believe that they are the understated X factors that the "success" of our season may depend upon.  I'm not worried about the interior (perhaps over-optimistically so). I'm also not too concerned with our corners, as they are quietly one of the best duos in the league. Sure, the safety position has more question marks, Trevon Moering is an exclamation point, and Nick Scott, though less of an exclamation point, still has plenty of experience. With the infusion of youth, size, length and energy, I can see a good mix that will result in positives from the DBs once Ejiro Evero figures everything out. And, we should all know, a credible pass rush provides the defensive backfield with opportunities to shine, and this is but another reason why I believe that Scourton and maybe Umanmielen will be key to taking up residence in the postseason. On an off note, and as a reminder, if the defense is doing its job effectively maintaining momentum with field position, if not outright laying down the pathway with short fields and such, this should make it easier for Bryce Young and the offense to effect points on the board in terms of TDs. Where the defense goes, the offense will have every opportunity to follow.
    • Its gonna be loud as hell in Montreal tonight.  But don't make any big turnovers or defensive lapses and I like our chances.
