Panthers.com's writers thoughts on TC

It's always nice to get more takes on training camp.

http://m.panthers.com/news/article-2/Roundtable-2017-Training-Camp-Takeaways/21189833-e031-41bc-908c-851c5587dd70

Just to kind of summarize (amid some of my own thoughts) for those who don't wanna click:

Everyone is high on Bradberry and expects him to be a top corner this season.

McCaffrey is as advertised. He's good at everything he does, and probably had the ball more than anyone else in camp.

Voth noted McCaffrey had met expectations, but said that's what top 10 picks are supposed to do. He said that Moton exceeded expectations and that the "building" is high on him as he's proven to be versatile and good so far.

Silatolu just may be an adequate option at LT if Kalil doesn't work out. Nonetheless, Voth's biggest concern is LT depth, as both guys have their share of injuries.

Funchess had the play of camp according to Henson not only due to his highlight reel, circus catch, but the fact that he had to beat Bradberry to put himself even in a position to catch it (and he a couple of steps on number 24).

Overall, they are pretty excited for our prospects this season. With more depth at tackle and possibly corner (though Luke, McCray and Southward have "flashed" as they put it), if we can avoid that injury bug wreaking havoc, then we can go places.

Come on.....it's preseason. Support the team...players and coaches.  Comment on their performance when you see it. This is a new year.

I gave a potential reason other than injuries why this team will not win the south. I think that's a pretty fair potential factor to be honest. That does not mean I don't support the team, and hope everyone has their best season ever. Quite the opposite

He's been part of winning the South 3 of 4 years. Odds are in his favor.

    • I don't believe this at all.
    • His PPG actually did go up a little in Colorado. We will see. I still sort of believe we saw pretty close to the peak of his abilities last year. Not wishing him ill or trashing him in any way. Just tend to believe we did sell high and correctly so.
    • Well, other teams also had an offseason. I honestly agree with him. Right now I have way more faith in Coker ascending then I do XL. I think it's the TE/WR group dragging us down. Plus he does mention that the list was made with WR's very much valued more than RB's and TE's(I understand the thought process). In that context, we have a very aging AT, two "wait and see" second year players(one leaning bust) and a rookie.  I really think this is a very fair rating, on paper and in the offseason. Quite frankly, aside from the aforementioned and aging AT, this is a bunch of guys still trying to prove themselves.  Then when you go to TE, it's easily a bottom 3-4 unit on paper. That is probably being extremely generous.  RB is where we make our hay. Probably a top 5-10 unit. But....he mentions early in the article that he doesn't value the RB units as much.  So, really, it's the weighting of the skill positions that is what really fugs us.
