Lee wouldn't have to clear waivers though, would he?

No but same type of thinking applies to him. And I was talking more of Butker/Palardy who both would. Even without waivers there would be teams fighting to sign Lee. You can easily eliminate the possibility of not getting him by trading a late meaningless pick for him. Happens all the time. Ealy was going to be cut and the Pats wanted to kick the tires on him without letting another team try first. It all just depends on what teams think of the player though.

Giving Cleveland a 4th rounder for Lee (yes there were other components involved) was one of Gman's rare mistakes.

In hindsight yes but only because of the injury and Palardy's emergence this year making him unnecessary. Lee was our MVP before going down last year. Still not sure I'd call it a mistake at the time, we were desperate for a punter and a 4th really isn't much at all.

So... another year of critical special teams mistakes costing us games, then?

This is what happens when a coach who can't evaluate personnel to save his life has significant input on the roster.

I totally agree. Rivera's player evaluation is highly questionable.

Gettleman did a lot of good things for us, but I have 4 major complaints, probably in this order.

1. Essentially ignoring the OT position for years.

2. Rolling with a CB corps consisting almost entirely of rookies last year.

3. Drafting physical specimens who represent his ideal images of a WR instead of drafting you know, actual WRs.

4. Trading a 4th rounder for an aging punter.

Haha the man evaluated CAM, Luke , Olsen ,CMC etc

Don't be a hater

Not being a hater. Just going from what I've seen in the past with Rivera. He is sometimes to loyal to veterans when a younger talent is out playing them. He is a bit to slow sometimes to realize when a change is needed. Thats all I'm saying.
