Keep a bit of perspective when piling on Peppers

It isn't really peppers fault that the team named him a franchise player and is paying him more than he (or any other defensive lineman) is worth.

Also, one other point in comparing Allen to Peppers. Allen was going up against the worst team in the NFC irt sacks allowed. They would be the worst even if you take away Allen's 4.5 sacks against them. Dallas is in the middle of the league. So Allen wasn't exactly going up against the best.

I do..Allen is a high motor guy...and he shows it peppers could be that but he just does not show it. he has never been that.but you cant question his love for the game.. you dont know peppers or allen.

Well, if Peppers loves the game, then there is something physically wrong with him. I don't see any other reason why a DE as physically gifted as Peppers would get dominated one on one by a TE.

Yeah I don't care if he flails and flops around like Allen...just dominate guys he should dominate on a consistent basis.

He could love the game and not be hyper about it...but I get the FEELING he likes playing to the extent that he has the ABILITY to play. In other words, what if I could do something really well and make a lot of scratch but I didn't really thrill in it? I really liked to sing but had no talent at it. Well I would enjoy my actual talent for what it could do for me, but in and of itself? Maybe not.

Gannt actually makes the case against Peppers. Peppers is much more talented than Allen and yet Allen stays with him in stats based on heart. Also, Allen IMHO is more dangerous than Peppers he is a DE that teams actually do double; unlike the usual excuse for Peppers. Also even when Allen doesn't get sacks he makes his presence felt, he has to be accounted for. Peppers just disappears.

I wonder how much pep loves the game too. monday night you could see that Allen truly does. The same can not be said about the last game for pep.

Again, if Pep blew up against a team like GB.....he would be bashed for only "coming to play" against the weakest possible teams. Allen is being praised as some sort of half man, half god, half possible centaur b/c of that game..... Allen has a motor and is one of the best DE in the league.....but like a lot of DEs he shines brightest when against scrubs. As Gantt did point out, he had more games last year posting a goose egg than Pep.

Pep is not and has never been a elite pass rushing DE. He has been an elite DE. Big difference and effects your expectations of him.

    • You're making conflicting arguments here though. If you want to say we don't have ideal depth and need another Safety for that reason, okay, that's fair. But if you want to talk about "the future at safety" then there is only one possible answer there, and he's already on the roster with Ransom. No FA out there right now is someone who would be a FS of the future for us, they'd all be one year fill-in's until we can replace them next offseason with a long term solution.  So if there is anyone with even a remote possibility of playing FS for us this year and then being our long term solution there, it's Ransom. Which is why I say throw him out there as the starter in Week 1 unless he severely struggles in camp.  The only way we'll know if we found a cheap FS for the next 3-4 years is by playing him and seeing if he can do the job. If he proves he can be the guy, then we have a minimal cap hit solution at FS through the 2028 season and can use that cap space and draft picks next year towards pass rushers, LB's, and/or a C or RT of the future.  If he struggles and we see he needs to be a backup SS for us instead, then we turn around and use those assets next offseason to find the long term solution. But signing a 1 year rental to play there takes that possibility away while also eating into the cap room we could roll over into next year.
    • Tanking in the NFL isn’t really a thing and anybody wanting to bring the rigged lottery to the NFL has an ulterior motive.
    • I understand where you're coming from, but we need another safety IMHO. Other positions, especially on defense, dont have ideal depth, but to me at least S is the one position we can't stand pat at even when thinking about the future
