Will take a miracle for the Panthers to be competitive in this one, honestly.

I hope they surprise me. They certainly did last Sunday.

I'll  copy paste my post from another thread-

"I wouldn't judge our defense by that terrible stat just yet. The abscence of Hightower has seriously hurt. KC had some great game planning in the 4th to put up 21 unanswered and Brees is well Drew Brees. The poo show vs the rookie Watson is a bit more concerning. Currently we have a very talented secondary with a woefully underperforming front 7 that is threadbare in depth at LB and DE. I'm not saying our defense won't be trash this season but I've seen seasons like this before where we don't know what we have as we're moving pieces around and forming an identity and Week 3 is way too early to write them off. I sincerely hope Hightower is back as he is our defensive signal caller.

How is Carolina's inside pass rush? Brady doesn't have a lot of weaknesses but being able to keep him from stepping up in the pocket is huge and Andrews our center is probably the weakest link of our line. How has the secondary looked without Norman? Has Benjamin dropped the Doritos and stopped trying to imitate Eddie Lacy? It royally sucks about Olsen but hopefully the WRs can step up. The main thing that makes Carolina a threat is like KC when they had Berry you guys are one of the select few teams that have a player talented enough to cover Gronk 1 on 1 in Kuechly. All I know is if he gets away with another bear hug in the end zone I'm doing more than throwing a lawn gnome through his window.

I've lived in SC all my life so I really wish this were a damn home game. A 2 hour drive to see Brady again is a lot better than needing a flight. My first NFL game was in 2015 when you guys played the Saints at home and a CB (I think Norman) sealed the game with a pick. Good times."

All that said, any given Sunday. We don't play Carolina often enough for me to know the matchups but the way teams are early in the season who knows how this one goes. Btw, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed reading you guys Superbowl thread when the Atlanta meltdown started.

Defense should come back. In all honesty Saints implemented probably one of the most challenging pre-snap motions to cover so far, and that got us out of place a lot.

Panthers played base defense a lot too for some odd reason. They just motion away Shaq and hit it. I doubt that Wilks isn’t smart enough to learn from that and play more nickel, which our defense has been tops in the NFL in.

Overall, just need more gap integrity and nickel packages. Panthers played elite against the Bills with that, but obviously against the Saints Sean Peyton dialed up a custom gameplan to fool us, and it worked.

You shouldn't be afraid of injuries, because it literally NEVER affects your team.    Must be nice :(.

But we lost Edelman for the season in the 3rd preseason game. And our starting LB has been out since late in the game week 1. And Gronk was out after the Seahawks game last year. In 2015 our offensive line was so decimated by injuries that an NFL record was set for how many times Miller knocked the hell out of Brady.

Trust me injuries make or break our season just like any other team the difference is usually Brady/BB can still get us to the playoffs through sheer will.

Not even losing Brady keeps the Patriots from the playoffs (Cassel year as example).

    • There are several posters that only post negative at all times.   8 wins is a big jump from 5 and we still have 2 games.  Jaguars have a much more talented roster than us and have underachieved for years.
    • All of this noise is just setting us up to lose Week 18 and proclaim life's not fair. If there's one thing I know in my 30+ years of watching the Hornets and Panthers, is that the bad guy always wins in the end. A team can be falling apart internally but we will still lose to them. A team's fanbase can be extra shitty and cocky and they will just win anyway. It always happens
    • Well even if we took diverging paths getting there...our overall assessment of Shough is the same (bolded) lol so I guess that's what matters.  What you call "playing at a level that looks like a veteran starter" is the same thing I'm referencing when I talk about his poise.  Although I still wonder how truly "bad" of a team the Saints are.  Their defense is middle-of-the-road, and their offense does have some good pieces (Olave, Juwan Johnson) outside of running back which is the position most everyone agrees is relatively plug-and-play.  I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the majority of NFL team's o-lines lol but I'm assuming Saints are not great there, although Shough's pressure % seems to have been quite low (and steadily improving) over the last four weeks (20 -> 16.7 -> 15.0 -> 13.0) so maybe they've been playing better as of late, or perhaps Shough himself deserves credit for that.   Some of the language I'm hearing about Shough, including talking about how he's way above league average in several categories, makes it sound like Shough is having a rookie season on par with like a CJ Stroud who established himself as basically a Top 5-10 QB his rookie season.  Maybe that's on me though, I don't mean to attribute anything to you that I'm sure you don't agree with.
