Hypothetical convo with Rivera

Recommended Posts

something tells me Leeroy is gonna have him a sit down with Paddle Boat Ron here in the near future.

in the spirit of the OP, i just have two questions for him. judge for yourself how you should approach them with the HC:

1) why the stubborn refusal to ditch Mike Shula in the face of insurmountable evidence that 2015 was a fluke year for his offensive scheme? and,

2) why do your balls seem to shrivel up whenever the Panthers get a 2 touchdown lead? yesterday was sort of an exception, but the pattern is still there. why do we not keep our foot on the gas? maybe play smarter, but just as hard?

The only thing I could presume to tell him is that a lot of fans seem to really like it when he's the riverboat gambler, and will probably excuse the occasional missed first down.  But seriously, this guy has been in the game as a coach and player for his entire adult life.  Does anyone on this board seriously think they can tell him anything about the game, or his staff, or his team that he doesn't already know?

Hypothetically, I would assume you would not want to be a douche canoe and would speak in a respectable manner, because that's what normal humans do face to face and not through the anonymity of the internet.

So if that is that case I would ask the following in a respectful manner:

  • His thoughts on the Gettleman firing. What was his working relationship like and does he think it was justified?
  • Why does the offense not implement a more uptempo style more often? Not even no huddle, just allowing Cam to get to the line and possibly audible, make some reads, etc? It worked in NE and it worked in all of 2015, but last year and the first 3 weeks of this year there was no pep in the offense's step. Is it the personnel unfamiliar with the plays? Is there an issue getting plays into the huddle? What gives?
  • If Wilks' defense continues to show out and do well and he receives a HC offer, who would be next in line to take over DC duties? Eric Washington?
  • Is there a player you guys passed in the draft that you really wanted but we didn't pull the trigger on?

I certainly would not question how he does his job or tell him how to do his job. I would enjoy just a normal conversation with about anything that comes up. Not necessarily football. He is a really good man and has an interesting history. It would be cool to listen to some cool stories from him

    • These are the three deep throw attempts that Will Levis made in week 12. His first one is a beauty; Levis and Westbrook-Ikhine gets the safety to bite on a deep dig only to go over the top for the score. His second throw is another beauty: a crosser to Calvin Ridley reminiscent of Bryce to XL (though Ridley has noticeably more separation on his route). His third and final deep shot was an incompletion from his own endzone on 3rd & 14 with pressure coming down on him (to me, this seems like a solid throw).   Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-02.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-01.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-01.mp4 Levis took half of the deep shots that Young did. The differences are: Ridley had much better separation than XL, which is why his deep crosser turned into a 63yd play since he was able to scamper for another 15+ after the catch. Westbrook-Ikhine holds on to his TD pass. Bryce had to throw one away to preserve time for a field goal. Bryce had two more throws that were incomplete due to the WR Are we really holding the three WR errors and clock management decision against Bryce in order to say that Will was better throwing deep in week 12? That's not passing the eye test nor is it confirmed by the data.
    • If you go on the PUP list before the season starts, you are gone for the year. If you start the year on the PUP list then you can get off of it. Kind of semantics, but we are putting him on the PUP list now which is before week 1, that’s why people who come off of it aren’t really on the PUP list until week 1, hence you usually hear right before the season that they are “starting the year” on the PUP list. I think PUP list and IR may basically be the serve the same purpose now because you also sometimes hear that if a player is added to the IR before week 1 that they aren’t eligible to come off the IR list for the entire year. Now, everyone added to IR (post week 1) can come off after 4 (or more) games so the PUP list is meaningless since it’s 6 games and starts at week 1. Anyone added to PUP or IR in the preseason is gone for the year.
    • I saw Brooks maybe a few weeks ago, he was walking pretty normally. of course he wasnt running, jumping and cutting.
