Do you trust Jerry to hire another head coach?

Ah okay, yeah that might be an issue if then. Oh well, it was just a thought. Out of curiosity what kind of candidates would you be interested in from college and the pros?

The easiest option would be Steve Wilks, and I do think he'd deserve a shot  (and it should be a legitimate shot, not a "Rooney Rule" shot).

My favorite choice though, would be Frank Reich, Eagles OC. His history here helps, of course.

I've pondered Jim Bob Cooter too, but he's got a couple incidents in his past that might turn the team off.

No he doesn't

when he was like 20 he drunkenly climbed into the wrong girl's bed after climbing up the wall of the wrong sorority house and into the wrong window

let he who is without sin etc

Let's be honest, who hasn't done this at least once?

Nope, I don't trust him at all.  He's never made great decisions.

Where we really whiffed was not getting Andy Reid instead of Rivera.    Reid with Cam would have been super fun to watch.    He's just a far better coach.

Instead we took the cheaper route and hired someone with 1985 ideas.    He catches lightning in a bottle once every 3-4 years and we have a good team and the rest are mediocre years.     I'm not sure what JR's motivations are anymore, it doesn't seem like winning in the current landscape of the NFL is (to be fair he may think it's still 1985 I'm not sure) and I'm not sure why someone that has few years left and is already rich would care about money so much.

His mid-20s were not that long ago seeing as he's only 33, and he has a DUI besides.

I'm okay with him personally. Not so sure how the Panthers would feel though.

The story was that we reached out to him during our last head coaching search and he laughed at our offer.

The Panthers official statement was that they were  never interested in Harbaugh. Jerry Richardson made some comment like "I'm sure he's a nice guy" or something. It came off kind of snarky. That may not have been intentional but the damage was done regardless.

Darin Gantt ended up "reassigned" off the Panthers beat when he continued to insist that we had indeed contacted Harbaugh while the team denied it.

So yeah, that was a mess.

Team officials insisted they had nothing to do with what happened to Gantt,  but to this day he still seems to hold a bit of a grudge.

Didn't he say something like "who is that" or pretended that he had never heard of Jim, meanwhile he had at one time been on the team?

Yeah, something like that. Same presser where he said something about Morgan Fogarty. Had a lot of people cringing.
