The Fire Sale Theory

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Not buying it.  Not yet anyway.

From one perspective,  KB is the same type of receiver as Funchess,  but a lesser route runner. And,  it's not like the Panthers haven't won without KB in the lineup.  Arguably our most successful offensive season ever was when Benji was out all year. So, I'm not sold on the firesale or tank theory.  I just think the FO wanted to add by subtracting. I'm not sold on the idea,  but I could have justified a second,  but not a third.  That just doesn't compute.

If I'm not mistaken isn't there a penalty we will receive if he becomes a full time gm for us ? Idk how that works .

They have to interview a minority candidate to satisfy the Rooney Rule. That's not exactly a difficult hurdle.

And let's be real: Only an absolutely ass backwards organization puts a guy who's one of the candidates for a position in charge of choosing and interviewing the other candidates.

Yea it really comes down to Jerry he's a great guy but man he's really to blame this year for this stuff . Gettleman should have been fired last year not during camp and Hurney should have never been able to come back , that was the worst move we did .

There are a lot of people who would testify that Jerry Richardson is a nice guy.

By all accounts, Ron Rivera is a phenomenal guy.

Unfortunately, there's no correlation between being nice and knowing how to run a football team.

Lord knows I wish there were.

Why not bench him instead of trading him then?

  1. Because of his attitude on being benched.  We have seen him pout often when he was wasn't thrown a ball. Imagine if he was on the bench.
  2. Him being a very good friend of the starting QB.
  3. The fact that if we benched him , his trade value in the off season would be 0 because everyone would know we aren't picking up that 8.4 million option.
  4. Lastly , probably no one else would have given us more than a 3rd or 4th and the Bill throw in a 7th as a thank you gift.

Where do you get 2nd round picks for barely in shape, bad route running, slow WR's with a slight diva streak and a bad football IQ?   Who would also be due an 8.4 million dollar salary in the upcoming season for you to keep them from FA?

I dont get all the outrage on here right now. I liked KB, but as far as comlensation goes he was a super late first rpund pick, essentially a second. Add a ACL into the mix and yeah, two draft picks one of which is in the third seems more than fair. Also this a reciever that 3 days ago all people on here could say aboit was that he ran half hearted routes, wpuld mentally check out and sucked at blocking. Y'all say we should emulate other teams but when we so pull some non "family" type deal everyone freaks out. What can our front office do that will please folks? If we resigned him to a deal it would only be "fug hurney now we dont have $$ for star, norwell, shaq etc". We actually got something for KB without having to just let him walk.

If a benching doesn't work out, you can reverse course.

Trade a guy away and then realize your offense actually got worse? Too bad. No refunds.

Because if an offense is ineffective, it's not likely getting better by removing one of its better options.

Say what you want about Benjamin, but can you name a better receiver on our roster right now?

Part of the reason we've had such a terrible run game is that nobody is threatened by our passing game. Do you really think anyone feels more threatened now?
