That isn't a given. 

He ran pretty well between the tackles yesterday.  His best run of the day was right up the gut into an 8 man box.  He went for 12-15 yards if I remember correctly.

I know it has been said ad nauseam, but could you imagine what McCaffery's numbers would be if he played with a QB who could consistently hit him in stride, a QB who was willing to take what the defense gives him, rather than preferring to play Hero Ball ??

McCaffery has been open, quite literally, virtually every time he has run a route. 

Meanwhile, we continue to force the ball down field and rank near the bottom of the league in passing efficiency.

The offense we displayed against Atlanta is unsustainable in the long term.

The "evolution" of the offense has failed...not because of  Shula or Rivera, but because certain key players are either unwilling or unable to execute.

Sure he does. He is the best pass catching running back in the NFL...and he is a rookie.

All that being said, just look at tape and see how many times McCaffery has to adjust to a poorly thrown ball in order to make a catch. This is a VERY big deal in terms of ultimate YAC. Remember the crazy one handed grab he made a couple of weeks ago for a short gain? If he doesn't have to leap, if the ball is simply placed where it should have been, the play goes, for much, much more.

And how many times have you seen McCaffery open underneath for first down yardage...and yet Cam will mysteriously  chunk the football downfield into tight coverage. 

Newton is 27th in NFL passer rating, despite having an unbelievable underneath weapon in Christian McCaffery.

We can’t just throw to Mac every single fuging pass play. We need to take shots downfield to keep the defense honest, then you will see things REALLY open up for Mac.

youre acting like Cam is throwing bad balls to him on every play, which is retarded.

Does anyone really think CMC deserves to be the OROTY? He's a top 10 RB who is on pace to run for ~500 yards. Sure his gross receiving numbers aren't bad, but I don't think overuse (relative to his peers) should be considered a massive plus, to be honest.

No one should assume that there's no need for an adjustment period just because McCaffrey was taken with a high pick.

All rookies have to adjust to the speed and complexity of the NFL.  Even good ones.

To be perfectly honest, it won't really matter to me whether McCaffrey wins awards this year.  What I'm most interested in is seeing whether he takes big steps next year.

Seriously, folks would benefit a lot from reading Ryan Kalil's advice to rookies.

MaCaffery has received virtually the same number of targets as Funchess.

Any idea why Carolina is 4th in Total first downs this year...and 5th in 3rd down conversions despite ranking 21st in total offense?

That’s my whole point. We haven’t had anybody step up to be that downfield threat. We can’t just keep forcing it to Mac.

Why? 

No one has stopped him yet. Seriously, he is open on virtually every play. Throw it to him until someone stops him. 

The 49'ers used to do it with Roger Craig. Use the short pass to open both the run and the downfield stuff. 

The reality is that no one respects our ability to go downfield at all. All the Atlanta game did was cement this.

      Um, no, just no. Bills, Chiefs, Chargers, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Eagles, Commanders are 8 teams that it's not even a debate, they aren't trading their QB for Purdy. Patriots, Broncos, Titans, Giants, Bears, Vikings, Falcons are 7 more teams with QBs drafted in the last 2 years that also would rather stick with them than trade for Purdy as they all have more upside than he does. Lions, Packers, Cowboys, Bucs are 4 more that would likely keep their QB's as well, age aside for Goff, Dak, and Baker. Panthers and Colts are two teams in the same situation, QB's who have both struggled and shown flashes to where the teams probably stick with them because they drafted them, but in a re-draft of all QB's, they probably take Purdy over the guy they currently have. Jags, Cardinals, Dolphins, are 3 more with QB's who probably have a higher upside than Purdy but come with their own question marks, so debatable if they'd take Purdy over who they already have. That leaves Jets, Raiders, Steelers, Browns, Saints, Seahawks, and Rams. Rams would take him over Stafford for the future of course, but not for 2025, and I'd think the Seahawks would take him over Darnold, but honestly not sure if they would take him over Milroe at this moment as they really like his potential and have him for 4 years really cheap. That leaves 5 teams that I see who would absolutely take him over their current situation right now, and a handful of others who MIGHT take him over their current guy, a far cry from your 20.

      Agreed. Also as soon as they received the top pick in the next draft it was over. Bears won that trade. Gave up a top overall pick got one the next year plus pick 9, a couple 2nds, and DJ Moore a proven young WR. Had their 2024 pick from us be in the late teens or later it would be more debatable IMO.

      Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
