What in the Hell is Wrong With Our Secondary?

No he wasn't. The power is in the hog mollies. He was right on that. But our line can't get consistent pressure without blitzing so that defeats the purpose

Idk why you got pooed, your right. Our DLine outside of DT is nothing to write home about. We can't 4 man pressure, that's a big problem. We needed a young talented DE to help but the closest we got is Mario....he's better but not a consistently dominant player. You either get an elite pass rusher or powerhouse DB and this D would be unstoppable. Yet we let both Lattimore and Derek Barnette drop to other teams.

If you can look at our Dline, and not see a line that should get pressure?

Not every pass play results in a sack. Heck, we got 3 last week, which is pretty dang good. We also get a ton of pressure. Our front 7 is considered one of the best in the league. And the Dline is a big reason for that.

We have Hall, and that Ebe character waiting in the wings. Not sure I would hold my breath on that drafting a DE high next year.

As for the DBs. Man that is a tough one. IMO, we are not as bad off as some folks believe. Because, believe it or not, there are a lot of teams worse off than we are. But yeah, we can defiantly add some talent.

To directly address OP, we're a cover 3 defense that will absolutely give up anything 5 yards and under in favor of not giving up the deep sideline throw. We're successful at it, more times than not. Unfortunately, we're not great at playing the intermediate middle away from Luke. If you're throwing from numbers to hash on the half of the field Luke is not, you're gonna have a catch. Our safeties are simply not good at breaking on those. They are good at keeping the play in front of them and they're usually good at making the tackle.

The problem with what we do is that we don't disguise it at all. Teams know that on the majority of plays, we're in cover 3 or man (we've used more man coverage this year than in years past that I can recall). So a simple motion let's this be known, and any decent QB will know that the seams or anything short-to-medium range will be there. And they're right. The most we do is make the QB have to throw a good ball. We are totally reliant on pressure. This is why we either get after QBs all game and get them jumpy or we get torched.

Bradberry does well. He didn't have a good game, but has been solid all season. Worley plays too soft and has all season. Though, Worley plays the run better than arguably better than any corner we've had in recent memory. Coleman is fine, but he's usually relegated to the deep third in cover 3 and thus, he's not being targeted. When he is, he's usually making a play or demanding a spot on throw and good catch, which is all you can ask a safety to do on a deep ball. Yes, he has a misstep from time to time, but that happens when you're trying to help bracket the deep outside threat on a double move from time to time. He was one step off from being in perfect position on the crazy TD catch in the back of the endzone. Not much to be said about it because it was truly just a damn good play by the Jets.

Our secondary just needs to be tighter and we need more mixing things up. And of course, a large part of it is our entire defense is busy staring at the QB instead of looking for a receiving option in their zone responsibility. The whole reading the QBs eyes bull is just that; bull. It's ineffective unless you've diagnosed the route coming in and you know you're where you should be. We don't do this. This is why you see wide open receivers run directly by defenders unnoticed.

So, it sounds to me kinda like you are mad because we get lucky every so often? Are you saying we don't deserve to be lucky?  Or that we would be in trouble if we didn't have some luck go our way?

The cliche "Rather be lucky, than good", is around for a reason. Embrace the luck. Luck is our friend. Some times the ball just bounce our way. It is much better than the alternative.

Come on Goob. We are 8-3, and right in the thick of things. The world is our oyster, and all that jazz.

Just stating facts, which you don’t like
