I'm not talking about Rucker I'm talking about Mario

You were implying that he could have been better with Mario (had he been here WITH Mario in his prime) and that's great but I was responding saying he was here with Rucker...and Rucker was/is better than Addison.

Sorry I didn't make that clearer.

I wasn't implying anything. Just saying imagine if we had a prime Pep on this team now instead of a 38 year old Pep. My comment had zero to do with anyone else on the teams Pep was on here when he was in his prime. Only Pep in his prime and our current team. Nothing else.

Idk about that. CJ and Hardy and co were bringing the heat every drive. But I’m glad we have Peppers back.

Could you imagine having Peppers and Hardy together if he wasn’t such a moron?

I was thinking the same. I know Greg ended up badly, and CJ isn't elite now. But people I can remember watching that line absolutely terrorize on Every.Single.Play.  I mean there was absolute pressure on each play.

I literally remember wanting to watch us on Defense as much as wanting to watch on Offense...we were that special.

Unfortunately, Pep is a dinosaur and has MAYBE one more year in him and Mario is 30. I know we just drafted Hall, but our solid line is awfully thin on the outside in terms of up and coming talent to fill their shoes.

What in the world makes you think Pep has maybe one more year in him? There's been no indication of him slowing down so if he wants to keep playing he can still play at a high level. Obviously could hit a wall at any time but there's been no indication he's close to the end.

And yes Mario is 30 but has very little wear and tear on him. Could see him having another 4-5+ years playing at a high level easily.

All that aside though, I agree we need youth at the DE position. I badly want an elite every down player like we had in Hardy and CJ in 2013. Mario has gotten to that level now I think but Pep is still just a part time player. Would've loved to have gotten Barnett this year and had a rotation of him, Mario and Pep. DE should be a position we target in the first two rounds next year for sure, maybe even trade up with the Bills' pick. Hall may work out but based on where he was drafted it's unlikely he turns into much more than a rotational player. Would love for him to turn into a stud, but can't count on it.

Yeah, that 2013 DL was completely frigging insanely good because of Hardy and CJ before CJ got leg whipped by the cheaters. Our D that year was every bit as good as if not better than the Seahawks by the end of the year. The secondary was a bunch of scraps put together that somehow worked, our LBers were obviously the best in the league and our interior line was very solid with rookies Star and KK as well as Dwan Edwards. But it was really Hardy and CJ that year that were the difference makers along with our LBers in that year's elite defense. What we've been missing since that special year on D is elite DE play. 2014 Hardy was out and CJ hasn't been the same since that leg whip. Mario is coming on now though and is looking like a beast like CJ was back then, but haven't had a DE on Hardy's level since then.

    • And, yes, I've been a slow boil, but watching continually watching shitty displays of football for weeks has me frustrated.
    • Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
    • But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
