Since the beginning of November...

McCaffrey: 53 carries for 265 yards 5.00 yards/carry

Stewart: 81 carries for 332 yards 4.09 yard/carry

The beginning of November is around the time our run game starting clicking, with the line improving (and even more since Kalil came back more recently) and Cam getting more involved. McC is still averaging about a full yard per carry more than Stew.

I still like Stew and he should still be involved but it's time for McC to be the focal point of our run game over Stew. We need to unleash McC in the run game, which will open up his threat as a receiver even more. McC should be the one seeing 80 carries to Stew's 50, rather than how it is now. Or even more for McC.

It's mind-blowing that our 8th overall pick has yet to see more than 20 touches in a game this year. He should be averaging around 20 touches. When will we actually see McC unleashed?

The "McC" nickname seems very difficult to type. haha. What's wrong with CMC? Aside from that, great post!

I think the reason we don't see so many carries is because we ask him to do so much, it's a little too soon to ask him to be the bellcow. Also, take into consideration tackling stewart is a bitch for the defenses. It does wear them down.

Stewart is McCaffrey's roadblock. Jstew is the franchise leading rusher and the coaches are emotionally tied to him and Stewart has basically been alternating between bad rushing games and great rushing games for the 2nd half of the season.

Its cut and dry to us but obviously not so for the coaching staff. The good thing is that CMC is still only  21 years old and Stew will be 31 heading into his last season on his contract in 2018. McCaffrey will eventually get his chance to become the lead back, probably sometime next season (2018) or the year after is more likely.

JStew has actually been in decline in yards per carry for some years now

  • 2014 : 4.6
  • 2015 : 4.1
  • 2016 : 3.8
  • 2017 : 3.5

Running backs almost universally drop off a cliff in terms of rushing production right around age 30 unless you're a HoF level back

I hope we have a new GM this offseason that gets rid of Stew. Hurney won't and I think DG made a mistake extending him 2 years--should've been one or not at all. CAP can handle Stew's style of a role behind McC

"CMC" is three syllables. "McC" is two and I just like saying "Mc" (pron. Mick). I don't know why

dont forget that CMC is a 21 year old who is only 5'10 and 200 pounds. A brute among normal people, not so much in the NFL. You guys are forgetting to factor in Durability to the equation.

I think we saw what the future of our team in the 1st drive vs the Packers, CMC just adds so much versatility to the offense its insane! The coaches will eventually get on the train and feature him more running wise. Rivera and Shula are ultra conservative and loyal to vet players by their nature so its just going to take some time .

McC is 5'11 205lbs

LeSean McCoy: 5′ 11 207lbs

McC has shown no lack of durability in college or so far this year, and he's taken a ton of shots on his receptions in the middle of the field. This wouldn't be an issue.

    • Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
    • But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
