Game plan for Atlanta?

Falcons have done quite better this season than I expected.  Ryan at home will be pumped up and itching right now to get the ball to Julio every opportunity.  Their running game is solid - but they have to know that no one has run on us all year too.

First Falcons game I thought was pretty close.  Falcons fans keep talking about the missed TD but I have never been a fan of the 'if only we had that one play' because the same is true for the other guys as well.  Cam had some great runs on them and the scheme seemed solid.

I watched Brees tear them apart the first time they played and the interception at the end cost them the game - the 'if only Saints had kicked the field goal' - lol - but the Saints just dominated that game.

Saints v Falcons part II I didn't see - but listening to Falcons fans it appears the Refs/NFL/Russia had it in for them as they blame the refs for the game (not sure how the refs were able to help with the butt pick but Falcon's fans can never own they just got beat and have to blame someone).

On Defense:

We always seem to get a bunch of sacks vs Ryan - and he always manages to get get 5-6 bombs off on us as well.  Hopefully we get lots of penetration and we can somehow slow Julio down.

On Offense:

Would love for our offense to take what defense gives us.  They want to try and stop the run - than let Olsen do what he always does against them...keep em honest and worried about what Easy Ed Jr will do to them. :)

Your thoughts?

My 11-4 comment was direct more at your offensive comment.

A agree about blitzing

oh, gotcha.

I don't have an problem with the long, methodical, boring drives.  I largely agree with it.  It is a formula that has worked here for some time.

Pretty sure no Falcons fans are complaining about the butt interception.

At one point I believe it was 9 penalities - 85 yards for the Falcons while the Saints had 0 penalties. They missed multiple penalties on Lattimore PI on Julio. Julio also scored a touchdown that the refs ruled it at the 1 and Freeman got a 15 yard penalty for saying something to another player??? Never seen anything like it.

The jet sweep has worked well for us at times this year...question is who do we have to run that play now?  First it was Samuel, then Byrd....so now who?  Clay is the obvious answer, but I am sure it will be Bersin.

Clay has a 29 yarder already in the books.

Run up the gut on 1st and 2nd down.  Long bomb on 3 and short, punt.

Rinse and repeat.

Last game of the season.  Shula might mix it up and throw in a flea flicker to Bersin on one of those 3rd and longs.

Or a wr screen.  My favorite is the end around with the slowest player they have suited up that day.  Man that's fun to watch.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
