In the playoffs, would it be bad to give Cam 20+ carries?

Horrible idea. One rolled ankle and we have Derek Anderson trying to not get murdered the entire game.

We're going to lose unless we pull something out of a hat- short of the Saints giving us the game. So why not try something like this? If Cam gets hurt he has all offseason to rest up.

Or we lose anyways and Cam gets hurt then spends the next two years following Andrew Luck around Europe looking for treatment options

  • Week 1 vs 49ers : 13 carries , 47 yards (WIN)
  • Week 9 vs ATL : 15 carries, 66 yards (WIN)
  • Week 15 vs GB : 12 carries , 63 yards  (WIN)

We're literally 3-0 in games where we run CMC over 10 times and he averages 4.4 ypc in those games.

That being said, I  very seriously doubt that the coaching staff is going to give CMC 20+ carries in the playoffs if it never happened even once in the regular season. Especially with Stewart coming back rested up Shula will be pounding him up the gut early and often in the Saints game.

What was really a strange abberation is how many times CMC  got to touch the ball in that intro drive vs the Packers . Thats probably the smoothest and most efficient I've seen our offense operate the entire season . And Shula proceeded to go back to stew and stall drives out for the middle part of that game . When we feed CMC good things usually happen (well this is assuming he doesn't have the dropsies again )

You can't be scared of getting hurt in the playoffs. Yes you could get a freak injury like Luck did- but Luck did not get that injury scrambling 20 times in a game, he got it over the normal course of football.

I'll be honest, I never liked Cam not going for that football in 50 for the same reason. I defended him to everyone who asked, but then he himself confirmed it was because he was concerned his leg would get hurt. It rubs me the wrong way when Thomas Davis is playing with a broken arm that looks like a football.

You put everything on the line in the playoffs and let the chips fall where they may.

Lol thats dumb. "Because Luck got a normal injury and normal injuries are possible we should repeatedly put our franchise QB in situations where his chances of getting hurt are higher just because its the playoffs. /s."

Teams should run Tom Brady and Ben 25+ times a game too because defenses won't expect it right? Its the playoffs lul

Brady isnt a running QB, dumb comparison. Ben is nowhere near as good of a runner as Cam.

Someone else brought up Luck as an example of what can happen to running QBs, he didnt get that injury while he was running.

This is the playoffs man you do whatever you can to win.

I could care less if he runs 30+ a game, as long as its working.

My only pep peeve with him and him running.  Is SLIDE

Which he has done a Heckuva lot better at this year (minus a cpouple games at the end of the season).  Protect yourself young man, plus seems like shockingly he was getting some calls this year he's never got.  Once we started seeing him slide more

    • Then why are they paying QBs so much compared to other players? QB are making so much it's harder and harder to pay other players. If a guy plays like 1 of 11 then there pay should be in line with that. Not all QB should be breaking the bank just because your next or a former 1st rounder There is a reason they say try to win it all on a QB rookie deal because after that they can cripple a team on what it can do. I would rather not do that for a bottom 1/3 QB. Cam and Jake have been the only QBs worth investing long term into this team has had I would rather not lower the bar. If a guy don't got the IT factor and it shows I would rather not invest long term into them and keep looking
    • Aho…come out and prove me wrong boy.
    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
