Cardinals face big decision on S Tyrann Mathieu

If Mathieu is on the roster at the start of the 2018 “league year” (March 14), he’s guaranteed to make $19 million in 2018-19.

That includes a $5 million roster bonus, his salary of $5.75 million in 2018 and $8 million of the 2019 salary. His cap number is due to increase by $6 million, to $14.1 million in 2018.

The team might ask Mathieu to take a pay cut. If he declines that offer, the Cardinals could release him. If that happens, Mathieu will have collected $21.25 million since signing an extension in August of 2016.

All I know there's moves to make in FA in 2018 and whoever the fug is our GM need to get on it

He is playing pretty well for the chargers.  Chance our coach thats always unwilling to have a veteran step down for a younger guy did it again and stunted growth?

To be fair Tre had a really good season in LA.

So hey at least we drafted one!

E: Also how could you forget about Panthers legend Charles Godfrey

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
