Team admits telling Newton to fake greater injury

“He took a hit. But when he walked off and he told the trainers he got poked in the eye, then they did take him into the tent and checked him for a concussion, which he did not have,” Hurney said.

“And it was really getting poked in the eye. He took a knee because they told him to take a knee so we could get the official timeout and Derek could warm up.”

So he was legitimately poked in the eye because of the hit to his helmet, but they instructed him to make it look worse for the official time out.

Teams do this alot actually. They say if your injured at certain spots to stay down even if you can get up. They'd rather give time to get ready the backup and it's safer for a player to get down even if he doesn't think it's bad. This is normal

No way! I'm absolutely certain this is the first and only time we've ever done this and we would never ever do it again because that would be wrong!

(and nobody else in the NFL does this kind of thing either)

Actually, I find this funny as heck because now they're being investigated by the NFL.

It makes sense because otherwise we would have to burn a timeout to give Anderson a chance to warmup. I think it’s standard for all teams when a QB needs to come out.

A tad naughty, perhaps.

Guys have been faking injury to buy time since football began, but in the current climate where the NFL fears anything that could conceivably be concussion related, it gets us put under joint investigation by the league and the player's association.

It's just kinda silly.
