You can't mention John Kasay here without people shrieking about his Super Bowl whiff. Beyond that he was one of the most reliable kickers in NFL history.

So why should a top paid kicker who has struggled throughout his career and still struggles to this day to make XP's and chip shots get a pass?

Stop rationalizing mediocrity.

Now, don't act like you can just draft kickers in the 7th round and they can play the same year. Or just take one off of a practice squad.

Olindo Mare is right there in the thick of that list too. What's your point?

How many kickers on that list were held back from attempting kicks beyond 45 yards?

That skews things just a tad. If you can't trust your guy, you get someone else. If we had no issue handing Kasay his walking papers, why should Gano be any different?

Kicker is probably the most irrationally criticized position in the NFL. Imagine if you were judged off of the one catch you dropped, the one throw you missed, the one block you whiffed on, the one catch you gave up, etc. etc. Any of those can contribute just as much to a loss as a shanked kick.

The fact that Gano is being criticized as heavily as he has been, after the season he just had, isn’t warranted in my opinion. Last year it would’ve been justified, but not this year. We don’t seem to demand perfection from any position except for Kicker for some reason.

Every gameday on the huddle results in no less than a few hundred shitposts about our QB for every little thing.

But our kicker still misses routine kicks, and it's no biggie.

Things that make you go hmmmmm.

He missed two field goals all year. Would you rather he have missed the 58-yarder?

Then you must be reading the gameday posts with your custom racism-colored glasses that are seemingly welded onto your skull. Gano got an XP blocked late in the season which was CLEARLY a result of a lazy o-line whiffing on their blocking up the middle and you had the gameday thread littered with “LOLOL CLASSIC GANO” and “CUT HIS A&$”.

As a general rule of thumb: try not to get your jimmies rustled over any gameday posts on the Huddle cause 90% of them are reactionary emotional nonsensical trash..basically a “Greatest Hits” of the absolute worst the Huddle has to offer.
