I know there are people who think we give Stewart another year, and with Hurney yeah it's possible, but I just cant see it.

Just curious your opinion...Stews age, experience, size, and him being a Hurney pet.....can a player like that be converted to a HB/FB?

Just wondering if he could play FB in some situations, and revert back to a HB in others?

If you want a pure fullback, no.

If you want a Mike Tolbert type fullback, maybe.

That was my thought...more of a Tolbert in San Diego days FB.

Stew can do a lot of the things Tug did back then, but I wonder if he could be a ram as well?  Guess not.

also if you want a microcosm of everything wrong with this franchise’s attitude on a philosophical level, here’s the million dollar snippet:

Quote

When Ron Rivera decided to make a switch at offensive coordinator earlier this month, a section of the fan base had a fleeting hope for a major change.

That’s not how the NFL works.

whoever the stooge that wrote this is, he’s assuming every nfl team runs the way the panthers do. but the nfl does work the way he’s trying to argue against. that’s why the guy that replaced norv in minnesota is getting a head coaching gig. he had the same personnel and used a different scheme to get more production out of them, but here’s panthers.com going “no, nfl teams don’t change schemes, it’s too much of a hassle, nah nah nah i can’t hear you blah blah blah blah”

fuging change phobic mickey mouse organization lol

Stew is one of the better blocking RBs in the game.  I don't see why he couldn't. Unless you're just looking at size alone.

I'm looking more at how Stewart looked for all but a small percentage of games this season.

I think he's done.

If he stops dancing and goes straight to the hole,  he can still probably do what other FBs do.  He can get that hard yard or two down the middle.

I'd love to see the offense with much more urgency , speed, and crispness. Thats always something I notice when I watch Patriots games, they're executing really cleanly and quickly and by comparison our offense almost always looks slow as hell.

lol even Turner just getting here already saying CMC shouldnt be the lead runner between the tackles. Def something he needs to improve on. I'm hoping in Turner's offense there's much more of a concerted effort to give McCaffrey pitches, directional runs, and in general more plays to feature him in space not having to deal with the clutter of the oline/dline .

I think we still really need a young power RB and a fast, good route running vet WR. Get that done in the offseason, cut Stew, Shepard, Bersin  , we could look like a very different offense 2018 season.

A lot of folks are talking about the speed of the playcalling.

My take: A guy who's been a successful play caller for over 25 years is probably capable of getting a play in to Cam Newton with more than 15 seconds left on the play clock.

Norv is also big on the offense moving fast, so...

We just might also run a effective 2 minute drill.

love this . He's already recognizing and planning to fix things like this is a great sign and shows hes not afraid to critique and help star players improve their game.

David NewtonESPN Staff Writer

Norv Turner said there are some "technique things we'll zero in on with Cam'' Newton. Do things to help him get the ball out quicker. "That helps the protection and helps out everybody,'' he added.

Norv Turner said his son, Scott, the new Panthers' quarterbacks coach, will spend more time with Cam Newton on the individual things.

Newton also talked about himself in the huddle.

"Half the time when I'm saying a play, I'm wrong, and those guys fix it. It's like my autocorrect. You know when you're on Word document, they're the red lining right there," Newton said. "Half the time I don't even know what's going on. I just wish I could take my helmet off and say listen to what he's saying. Either I'm tired from scrambling or said the play and got tongue-tied.

I think this was just some self-deprecating humor.

I can't remember more than a couple of instances of Olsen or anyone other than Cam speaking in the huddle.

    • Anybody got a clue what this is supposed to mean? 🤔
    • I figured as much. Hopefully he's just resting up and will be ready for round 3 (if we make it that far.)  Sucks to see. Hes been our best defender (besides Slavin) in the playoffs so far.
    • I've never bought into the idea. There's just too much at stake, even for front office people. Jobs are lost, trust is lessened, lives are altered, reputations are damaged and more. Throw in that the average front office person isn't as young as the average player. They may not have ten years ahead of them to salvage their careers. Any given year could be their last. The only person not guaranteed to suffer some direct form of consequence from losing is the owner, and even there you still have problems (fan reaction, team reputation, revenue, etc). You've also got massive egos in play on that front so it can get personal. Mind you, I do accept that there are "fire sales" in order to build for the future, but even those have consequences. They don't exactly guarantee success either. Poorly run teams often just wind up in the same circumstance a few years down the road. Sorry gus, but my tinfoil hat just hasn't fit me for quite a while.
