Worley to safety?

Worley (who I have dogged) at the end of last year was playing better than Bradberry.  I wouldn't move him yet.  Worley is still developing.  See Josh Norman.  Takes years to develop a lot of corners.

also, as others mentioned....Wilks put them in a lot of bad spots.  So they were gonna get beat more than under McD.  Let's add real competition and let them be and see what plays out next year.   I think we need to know more about what Washington plans to do

Agree 100%. If we are sticking with a zone heavy cover 2 scheme, we should be fine at CB if we will invest heavily at safety. On the other hand, if we are going to leave our CBs on their own frequently, we need to bring in a true cover corner to pair with Bradberry.

I prefer the first option.

Here is what I know about  Worley...He sucked as a rookie.  He got benched by Seymour earlier in the season.  He stepped up, he got better.  The guy often did not have S help because that is probably going to go to Bradberry and the #1 WR.  So, he gave a bigger cushion.  He made some very good tackles in the open field.  basically, he likes to face the QB, he does not have speed to run with even the #2, so maybe he would be a better S.

This. I've been really hard on Worley in the past, but I'm not sure that's been completely fair. The more watch him and think about his skill set, the more I think that we may simply be playing him out of position.

It sure makes sense.  If not out of position, out of scheme--but  I really think he might be a ball-hawking S.

Or even an upgrade over Shaq or Colin Jones in that buffalo nickel spot if Washington plans on continuing that approach. We sure do seem to prefer that buffalo style nickel over a traditional nickel CB. I think we REALLY value the ability to play the run in that spot and Worley IMO is probably the best run support guy in our secondary. I think he could potentially be an excellent cover 2 CB, but that's not what we do. At least not in the past. And if we want to run more cover 2, then we damn well better upgrade our safeties and get some guys who can run back there or we're going to be getting beat over the top on the outsides constantly.  If we stick with a similar scheme, I truly think that Worley is better suited at safety or in that nickel role. Yeah, the thought of Worley vs. quick slot receivers scares me, but honestly could he be any worse at that than Shaq or Colin Jones?

Good point--he would be an upgrade.

We have to do something about Kurt Coleman.  He should not be starting at saftey and ideally not even on the team after the abomination of terrible saftey play he had for the past 2 seasons and especially this past season. He's constantly out of position, getting burned down the field , getting juked, turned around , trucked, you name it.

I'd be all for trying Worely there. At least that would mean we're trying to solve the problem instead of just letting it fester.

If I were GM I'd cut Coleman, use Adams as depth. Draft a saftey, and either get a saftey in free agency or move worely to Saftey and get a  vet CB in free agency.

I mean, I agree about this past season but grabbing a guy like Coleman off the scrap heap and getting 7 interceptions in '15 and 4 in '16 is pretty damn remarkable.  But it wasn't even the interceptions, it was the hitting that set him apart in '15.    Worst part is his success led to the Mike Adams Experiment.  I just hope they give up on the idea of grabbing old FA safeties and get some young talent there.

Well with Hurney we got young safeties that were lost in coverage. Yeah we had Harris but he couldn't cover worth the poo. He was just another linebacker. Also knowing Hurney, i wouldn't be surprised to see Tre Boston back here next year. I think the Chargers defensive scheme masked some of his deficiencies. In all honesty, our secondary needs an overhaul. Still gave up too many big plays. We need Kyle Fuller at corner.

Cut Coleman and sign Eric Reid. Tyrann Mathieu or Antoine Bethea are two potential cap casualties that can also replace Coleman. An outside the box idea would be moving DRC or David Amerson to FS if they are cut too. Both are ball hawks. Basically what I’m trying to say is, whatever it is, cut Coleman.
