Panthers put interim GM Marty Hurney on paid leave after ex-wife’s allegations

True or false, if it costs him his job she loses money.

Weird situation.

True, but if the accusations were actually true, then she should report it even if it cost her.

Fwiw, the accusations sound a little far fetched.  He hacked her computer?  I seriously doubt old Marty could hack her computer.  Unless he knew her password, and she didn't change it.  Of course, then its not really a hack.

Sheesh. Just allegations though, innocent until proven guilty.

They create a perception though, especially given he's in the shadow of Jerry Richardson.

Fair?  No, but hey...

If he's guilty...

let him fry.

If he's innocent...

Hmm, that's a bad look for the organization regardless, I don't think we should associate with him any longer. Time to move on.

If we weren't on the heels of having to change owners for a sexual harassment scandal, and also caught in the #metoo wave, you might be able to absorb it.

Under the current circumstances, not so easy.

This organization has too much baggage for that.

Maybe so, but I will reserve judgement until this is resolved. It was more on how I stand, I know how the media will react and make it seem like he already did it with no proof other than the words of his ex. If he did, he needs to leave, if he didn’t, he will still leave because that’s the way things work now.

I'd have to figure those would be cases of getting someone else to do it.

There are lots of guys out there who have the skill.  Quick trip to the deep web will likely find you one easily.

I get what you’re saying but people can overcome this. Look at Kobe Bryant, when he got accused of rape and was found innocent, a couple months later everyone moved on. I have a feeling same this will happen to Marty.

Cut ties and move on. That whole front office regime needs to be removed.

I'd agree.

Given that they were set to name Hurney GM over three better qualified candidates though, I'm not real sure the people currently running the team quite get it.

Marty Hurney doesn't have the money or the fame that Kobi does.  Not a good comparison.

It's possible.

Look at recent history though.  The NFL horribly bungled both the Ray Rice and Josh Brown situations and embarrassed themselves greatly in the process.  They're not gonna wanna make similar mistakes.

More relevant to us, though?  Jerry Richardson.

I have no doubt that when Jerry Richardson announced he was selling the team, he did so with the expectation that the NFL would accept that as his mea culpa and just let him walk away.  Obviously, that didn't happen.  And now, despite him basically volunteering to take the worst punishment that could happen to him, they're continuing with an independent investigation.

Had they let Richardson walk away, I'd be more inclined to believe they'd take it easy on Marty.

Now, who knows?

Fair enough, but fame and money will get you in the right perception of the public? Let’s say JR is found innocent, will that help him? I feel like if you’re innocent perception will and should change for the better.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
