A chance that Norwell stays?

People are also forgetting that we have an out with Matt Kalil's contract after next season. He got PAID the first two years, and then has a minimal cap penalty to remove after next year. So purging Ryan this offseason, then his brother the next offseason would allot us enough money to re-sign the likes of Norwell this season, re-sign Williams the next season, and then see if Moton or a rookie tackle TBD is good enough to take over LT duties moving forward. It's also a tryout for Larsen moving forward to see if he's the long term answer at C, or if we need to draft a guy there as well.

agree. Older Kalil needs to go. Loyalty does not win championships. Old guys eating cash sitting on the bench loses them. Cut Kalil, resign Norwell. I wouldnt even mind trying Moton out at LT next year.

2019 Contract details by year 29 $7,000,000 $2,400,000 $750,000 $2,500,000 $250,000 $12,900,000 $7,200,000

The only numbers that really matters there is $12.9M and $7.2M. $12.9M is his cap hit in 2019 if he's on the roster. $7.2M is the "dead money" figure meaning that is bonus money that has already been paid that will hit our cap no matter if he's on the roster or we cut him. So, if we cut him after next season, it will be a $7.2M cap hit in 2019. The way you can spread that out over two years making it $3.6M in both 2019 and 2020 is by designating him as a post-June 1st cut.

Here's a Chart I made:

5a7e1063f176b_MattKalilContract.png.3beb1a3224c943a228fc311fe569d179.png

JKJK it's from spotrac. As you can see, Gettleman inserted a fail-safe into the contract in the event Kalil was dildos. Something Hurn-dog never did with any of his long term deals. So while initial reports were for the deal being a 5 year $55 million deal, we were only ever on the hook for the bonus of about $25 million, and it was structured so that the majority of that $25 mil would hit the first two years. So if he was good, we had a long term solution at LT that would have a contract worthy. If he sucked, we could nuke the contract after two years and still be good long term.

thanks. you think we extend Olsen this year and spread some of his contact out? his number pretty high this year.

Didn't Hurney just give him some more money within a week or so of being named interim GM? His cap figure is actually about $2.5M less than last year.
