@PanthersLucas with 5 potential cuts, his take, and savings.

To me Johnson and Stewart are no brainer cuts. I believe even if Hurney is retained as GM they will still be cut. Shepard is also an easy decision to cut.

Kalil largely depends on what the doctors say his liklihood of playing a full season is.

Coleman, I could go either way on him. If we cut the others then the extra couple million for him won’t be vital to have.

If we plan on keeping Star and or Norwell I hope we can extend them before free agency hits. The franchise tag cost for either of them is just over 14 million. Our current cap space is just shy of 12 Million.

What are we giving up?

Shepard is worthless as a WR and was tied for 86th in the NFL in special teams tackles.

CJ is still solid against the run but his impact as a pass rusher in nonexistent.

Kalil is still a solid center, but our offensive performance was roughly equal if not arguably better with Larsen.

Stew averaged under 3.5ypc and it wasn't a fluke. He only averaged 3.8ypc last year. The burst is gone.

Coleman was completely terrible. Unless he was hampered for much of the season with an undisclosed injury he's gotta go.

So basically, we wouldn't be sacrificing much and we'd be gaining a ton of cap space. These are the decisions franchises that are successful year in and year out make without hesitation.

I would offer Kalil a chance to play for about $3.5 m or be cut.  Release the rest.

This is very similar to a thread that just ran through this page---if Marty is here, he will try to  hang on his draft picks--Kalil, Stew, CJ---unless he has matured.  The best GMs take emotion out of the equation--you earn your contract for current play and expected performance--not reward for glory days.

Kalil is the only one I would hesitate cutting. I would have cut the rest in a heartbeat

According to https://overthecap.com/player/ryan-kalil/1190/ he has a signing bonus coming due pretty soon so we will know sooner then later what the team plans to do.

My level of hesitation would go up if we also let Norwell walk.  Replacing both at the same time seems a little risky, for Cam at least.
