This makes me wonder if GMan was the one wanting to keep Shula

No. Remember his frustrated press conference talking about how "evolution" wasn't the right word for the changes coming to the offense? Seemed pretty obvious to me that Gettleman wasn't exactly happy with the direction of the offense.

Not Gettleman's call. Head Coaches choose coordinators and assistants.

BS. It is the head coache's job to hire and fire their staff but a GM won't bring anyone on they don't like or can't work with. They have input for sure but the actually hiring and firing is the coaches job. But to assume the GM has no say when this impacts their job greatly is naive at best.

Shurmur calling the shots, Shula just a warm body with a solid last name.

Honestly, very possible.

Might also have to do with the fact that they're very likely to take a QB and even if you hate Shula you have to admit that he was pretty important in helping Cam transition to the NFL.

Just as a reminder...

Why didn't Dave Gettleman hire Pat Shurmur as OC when he interviewed in Carolina a few years back in his first week as GM? Said it was Ron Rivera's call and "I would never force a head coach" to hire an assistant.

Gettleman wanted this guy bad enough that he eventually hired him as a head coach, yet he stepped aside and allowed Ron to hire the guy that he wanted.

What's your point? The HC should be hiring the assistants and coordinators. They're all working for him, not the GM. And frankly Shurmur is a great offensive mind but he wouldn't fit in with Cam well at all. Cam's best suited in a system with a downfield passing game to utilize his big arm and great downfield accuracy, like our Coryell system here. Shurmur runs west coast which is all short passes that basically turn your passing attack into a running attack. Would've been a poor fit.

Welp I surely didn't think Shula would be hired as a ball boy let alone as an OC. Sucks for Giants fans lmao

It's wild, not one mention of Shula interviewing for the job that I recall.

Very possible he's just a placeholder until current Vikings QB coach gets out of that contract (Vikings blocked Giants from interviewing him for OC, which is allowed in current NFL rules but I think it's pretty ridiculous).

Try to keep up with the thread, champ. Read through again. You'll understand my point.
