How reliable is that source? At $20M they have the Panthers cap room higher than any other site I’ve seen. That’s an awful lot of teams with money to burn. That doesn’t bode well for us.

Unknown.  It was retweeted by Steve Reed.  Might depend on how reliable you feel Steve Reed is.

Bortles being injured and contract becoming fully guaranteed really hurts the jags. They'll get it done by some random cuts but 16 million isn't alot when you still haven't franchised your number 1 wr

That sounds right. It was unbelievably terrible and for us to not only get out of that cap hell but while doing so make it to the divisional round of the playoffs or further three years in a row is a testament to DG's ability as a GM (2013 was a fascinatingly good year considering where we were cap wise going into it...). Was he perfect?  No. But he was by far the best front office person we've had in our entire history as a franchise. It's a shame JR screwed it all up. Hopefully the new ownership will just be able to hire great people consistently.

The thing about the cap hell Marty left us in was that much of it was guaranteed $$ going to aging players.  He locked in 4 and 5 year deals just before getting canned. He was desperate.

Of course, in about 2010 Marty had about $78m and we re--signed our core from a 4-12 team--went 6-10 the following year.  (going from memory)
