Free Agent Biggest Fear

Recommended Posts

I hope Hurney wrecks our cap space by signing FA’s. Get them all and just make it work this year! Trade all the picks for just two 1st Rd picks!

Sign AROB, Sammy, Ansah, Reid, etc. and backload all of the contracts. Trade for Suh to replace Star. Trade for Darby. Then trade all the picks to draft two picks in the 1st Rd.

Destroy it all and let the replacement GM figure it out going forward. At least we will have infused some talent to make up for some poor drafts and a new FO can decide who stays and goes

100% my biggest fear is losing Peppers. With Peppers, our DE rotation should be pretty damn good again. Losing CJ is addition by subtraction at this point in his career. Without Peppers though? Oh wee mayne. Probably looking at Wes Horton starting.

Honestly, I'm expecting Peppers to sign elsewhere at this point. I think if he was returning or retiring, it would've been announced by now. If Peppers bolts on us again, he's the Judas of Panthers and I say this as a guy who is a Panthers fan because of Julius Peppers.

I think people also need to keep in mind how much JR meddled in personnel.  This may be the first offseason Hurney has complete autonomy.  So that could be really good or really bad...  we'll find out.

Many don't seem to understand this point...or don't want to.

Yea, I must admit, it won’t look good if he leaves again. I get chasing after a ring, but yea, it’ll be a bad look.

Have to think he is going to get a safety and\or CB in FA.  RB can be drafted and help early same with interior lineman.   Another move at WR is expected but unsure where\how.  Probably need a DT as well and Star could still come back if his big hey day doesn't materialize.  DE could probably wait if we resign Peppers.  TE would be nice but also can wait.

I wouldn't at all rule out the possibility that JR is STILL meddling in personnel behind the mask that is Tina Becker.

    • I mean, if Moore really wants out, then it would behoove the Bears to make it happen sooner than later. X is a lot younger and cheaper, and may be a better fit for Johnson's musings than a disgruntled, unnecessary, overpaid vet. If they can dump his salary and maybe get a fourth or so in return, it may be worth it to them. As for development, I'm not concerned. You're talking about a seeming bust, a day three guy and a UDFA. They are developing relative to their ceilings. I doubt any of them will ever command the coverage, money, or the respect that Moore has acquired. He's a tier above them. Yes, even X.
    • IMO, if Ceedee plays against us, the game probably goes the other way. Same with Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins. Our team just isn't designed to beat teams with two high level receivers like that. But when you look at the league, how many teams really have two guys of that caliber?  There's nothing wrong with defensive adjustments, but sometimes I think a lot of fans want Evero to call a different play like a game on madden, and defensive football just isn't like that. That said, I thought we did a much better job this season against the Cowboys of flipping Jaycee and at least making them work for it, opposed to last season when they literally just lined CeeDee up on the other side of the field every single snap.  For us to just straight up switch to consistent man coverage, or a different zone, or whatever, we likely would consistently need different personnel on the field. Doing it a few times a game is a gamble and can work, but if we consistently run man coverage against the Cowboys, eventually a RB is going to beat a linebacker, or something of that nature with our personnel. Part of the reason Evero likes this scheme is that, while we have our defaults and presets, what we do is very multiple, and you can do a lot of different things pre and post snap. We are a challenging defense to read. But as you said, if guys are getting beat, it doesn't really matter what you call.
