For the Monk Haters

I don't really understand it. Clifford had him sitting on the bench because he's a rookie and now that he is seeing the floor he is showing everyone why he should have been playing all year. His defense still has a long way to go but this was known when he was drafted. He needs consistent playing time. He is a scorer who needs to feel comfortable and find a rhythm. You can't do that when the coach never lets you see the floor.

In his last five games getting at least 15 minutes (18.8 average) he is averaging 12 points on 44% from the floor and 44% from behind the arch. If you actually watch the games he looks explosive and actually passes the ball pretty well. For those who have said he hasn't shown anything he looks like our most promising rookie since Kemba.

I dont recall any Monk haters on this board.  Like zero.

I've already seen people saying he hasn't shown anything, we should look to trade him, omg we should have drafted Donovan Mitchell monk is a bust etc. It's not a lot of people but they're out there.

There were some people questioning whether or not we should trade Monk a couple weeks ago.

Both he and Willy are playing really off the bench right now.

In Willy's last 5 games (receiving 15 or more minutes), he is averaging 18 minutes per game, 10.2 points (50% FG/ 77% FT), 8.8 rebounds (3.8 offensive), 1.2 assists, 0.8 blocks, 0.8 steals.

If Willy can keep these numbers up he makes Zeller expendable in my opinion. Now I love Cody because he is a fantastic hustler but Willy's numbers these past 5 games are actually better than the numbers Cody put up as a starter last year.

I'd be interested to see if attaching Cody to Batum in a trade could land us a back up point guard.

Unfortunately for us Batum has the worst contract in the league save Joakim Noah but maybe a package of Batum, Zeller, top 10 protected 2019 first round draft pick for Tristan Thompson and George Hill would work.

I don't think the Hornets need to break this thing down yet. I could see a line-up of

PG: Walker, Trade (George Hill???), Draft Pick (Jevon Carter???)

SG: Lamb, Monk, Graham

SF: MKG, Draft Pick (Mikal Bridges???), Bacon

PF: Williams, Kaminsky, Trade (Thompson???)

C: Howard, Hernangomez

Even having the MLE would allow the Hornets to use it on a promising player like Jarrell Martin just in case Willy struggles.

With the right moves, this team is salvageable.

Monk should be a starter at some point next season. This kid has talent. Who would have thunk it? IDK the entire fanbase of the Hornets. Smh. I gave Clifford the benefit of the doubt, but Monk is showing me that the game has passed Clifford. Time to get some young blood in there as coach. Make it happen Mitch.

Rumor has it that Clifford wanted Donovan Mitchell instead of Monk. Cho chose Monk obviously. Rumor has it that MJ was a huge Mitchell fan as well. Take that rumor with a grain of salt. I don't think MJ knows NBA talent from a hole in the ground.

Part of me believes that since Clifford wanted Mitchell, he didn't play him. Clifford played Kaminsky heavily in his rookie year (granted MJ definitely made that selection.)

I like Clifford, he has his faults. He'll get another job quickly though if he wants to coach again. He has worked with rump roast since arriving in Charlotte in 2013. He coached a team to the playoffs with guys like Josh McRoberts and Chris Douglas Roberts getting extended minutes. Kemba has gotten much better under Clifford.

I think Clifford should get one more year because I don't believe we can hire someone better. Generally, you don't fire someone that's had success (very low bar since NBA returned here) unless you know you can get someone better.

Monk reminds me of a more athletic Stephen Curry. He can burn you from the 3 point line as well as take the ball in the paint and finish at the rim. That is a rare combo. He should've never been riding the pine. He will become a superstar.

And NBA2K still has him as a 72, fuging idiots.

    • I hate seeing this. I'm not sure he was ever going to make it in the NFL without the injury but that injury knocked FSU out of the college football playoffs and cost him and them and opportunity on the biggest stage in college sports. The injuries are the worst part of this game.
    • I don't know what Texas A&M was doing with their edge rushers. They had two freaks in Scourton and Shemar Stewart and yet instead of turning them loose they asked them to play 20 lbs overweight and just set the edge. That's full-on coaching malpractice at any level. Much was made about Shemar Stewart's lack of sack production, but while he wasn't my favorite prospect this year a lot of that was clearly what they were asking him to do. The good news with Scourton is that, unlike Stewart, did manage to be a huge factor as a pass rusher despite this and despite playing 20 lbs overweight. If he can stay around 260-265 it should help him re-gain some of that explosiveness from his Purdue days.
    • I did, but again we're aware of the practice in college of inflating height/weight as well as what is considered normal and his freshman weight tells a lot. There was a recent Raw Room episode where at one point they were discussing putting on their "big boy weight" when they go to the pros. It's common for guys to have to slap on 20lbs over the summer, but King Dunlap mentioned having to put on 30 and how much of a toll that took on his body. That makes the idea of putting on 50 at the college level even harder to believe. I've got experience with cutting weight and that type of drop sounds just awful... and that's even if doing it healthy and not just turning yourself into a piece of human jerky. Having to add 50? Noooooo thank yoooou. I can understand wanting to take Scourton at face value, but we didn't take Bryce at face value either (and for good reason!). Give the recently posted videos a shot. I watched the one you linked even though I've already seen it, so why not extend the same courtesy? I think you'll find yourself getting more excited about his Purdue tape than you will being irritated by what you believe are false narratives being pushed. 😄
