Breer: "Drama" in the sale process, and possibly a new favorite

From every thing I have gathered this matches my exact suspicions. Everything seems to be pointing to Navarro getting the nod and their being a semi drama of his business (malarkey in my opinion) and then we have a good local owner! I for one think this played out perfectly for the franchises future if it does indeed play out this way. Other than Tepper being rich I didn’t like his frugality nor his personality/allegiance to another team/area. Also the whole “he owns 5% of a team so he “already knows how to run a team” was a bunch of poo. #TeamNavarro

That some of his fortune came via debt collection.

The NFL doesn't want another headache. If you recall, the last Steelers minority owner to buy a team recently is Jimmy Haslam with the Browns. Haslam is currently under trial for his Pilot Flying J business and the details are quite messy. Haslam has not received any punishment yet but his company was raided by the FBI.

I'd also like to say that just because a guy is associated with the Steelers organization, it does not mean he'll be a successful owner. The Browns run of ineptitude under Haslam is staggering and the worst in any of the major four sports in the last seven years.

This is all I think about everytime someone mentions how we “all know how ol’ Steelers model Tepper is gonna run things!”

Is fast food franchising any more of a noble industry than debt collection? What about the alcohol sponsorships that the league profits heavily from? I don’t get why anyone would be hesitant over Navarro’s business background, especially considering he invests a lot of his money and time to improve education.

There's no way to predict how good any of these guys will be. For all we know, Navarro could be the worst owner in sports.

The one thing I will say about the Steelers organization though is that they have hands off ownership. No, that doesn't guarantee that Tepper would be a good owner, but it does mean he would have seen a good example on that front.

(which might indeed be a good thing because most of what I've read about his personality says "hands on" to me)

If Kestenbaum wins, I'm going to go ahead and prepare myself for the end of my NFL, specifically Panthers, fandom...  because he will certainly move them to Toronto as soon as he can.

And if the NFL allows Kestenbaum to win it, I'll be even more pissed.  I don't like that Navarro is linked to shady business practices, but I'd much rather have him or Tepper as the new owner, otherwise this franchise is as good as gone.

Are you saying that because the guy, from Miami, recently bought a steel company in Canada? Because why would you assume a guy from Miami would move the team to a country where he bought a random company?

Part of me wonders if the league's issues with Navarro ultimately have more to do with the fact that he's not as rich as Tepper.

Pretty sure Kestenbaum is from Brooklyn.

Tepper lives in Miami, he's originally from New Jersey.

I get confused about all these guys...but I know none of them are from the country where one of them bought a random company. It seems like the random speculation about Toronto is simply fueled by the idea that one of them recently bought a Canadian steel company. Which makes me scratch my head.

Totally agree with that sentiment. We have no idea how good or bad these owners may be.

My ultimate fear is the guy that gets the team is a Jimmy Haslam/Daniel Snyder type. We've experienced 1-15 in 2001 and 2-14 in 2010, those organizations consistently lose and I don't want to go near that rabbit hole.

Back to Navarro, the NFL will definitely want to vet him if they are concerned about his business practices. The FBI probe on Haslam surprised the league.
