Guess the fine for D. Wesley

Happy Panther

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets safety Eric Smith thinks the NFL "made an example" of him with its punishment of his helmet-to-helmet hit on Arizona's Anquan Boldin a few weeks ago.

Jets S Eric Smith felt his fine was excessive for this hit.

Smith was suspended and fined $50,000, including one game check, after the scary collision near the end of New York's 56-35 win on Sept. 28.

"If you compare it to the other fines and the extent and the value of the number they put on the other fines, I definitely feel that I may have been made an example of," Smith said Thursday. "It was a first offense this year, and there are a couple of second offenses that haven't been as severe as mine."

Boldin needed surgery to repair a fractured sinus and is sidelined indefinitely. Smith, in his third year, appealed the decision and insisted there was no malicious intent on his part. The league said Smith committed a flagrant violation of player safety rules and that Boldin was in a defenseless position when contact was made.

"I tried to tell them that my intention wasn't to hit him like that, but they told me intent wasn't looked at," said Smith, whose salary is $445,000. "But if intent isn't involved, then why isn't every fine the same?"

DW's salary is double that...could be more

Maybe more and may be suspended too... I'm struggling to come up with ANY reason to hit the punt returner, much less like that?

I'm still trying to figure what the hell he was thinking.

Unbelievable. Not a Panther move. Can't complain whatever they give him. The result of his stupidity could have been tragic.

    • MHS, You are missing Claudin Cherelus is a LB that's in the mix for the 4th spot. He's been here for 2 years and had a couple injuries. I mean he was a wavier claim and been here for evero system, just had bad luck when given a chance. Jon Rhat is the current leader mainly cause of he is the ST ace. But Id say, Cherelus has the same % to make the roster.  CB has the recent wavier claim of MJ Devonshire a 2024 7th rounder. He's got the good-great combine numbers but he's small size. Still he's in the mix for backup duties, in fact all the non-UDFA are wavier claims.  ______________________________________________________________   Dam shame about Clowney. I view this as a bad move. I feel clowny is well worth the 7.7, even as a backup. He played hard the whole year without help. I just feel he would have helped more than either DJ Johnson or Barno.  My only cope is he's 32 and at any point his miro-knee could force him to drop off a cliff performance-wise. I wanted to keep him around at least until the trade deadline and if no chance at playoff, flip him for a anything. NFL is a meat grinder, no love for locals....
    • Might as well. We need to get these rookies on the field and see if they can play ASAP.
    • This hate this part of football and then you have to get down to the 53 Man Roster 🙁
