So fake news??

If I had to guess, not entirely fake.

We've heard it reported that Tepper won't go above a certain number. Someone may have taken a statement to that effect and run with it

It could yet turn out to be true, but Tepper is for the moment letting everybody know that he's still involved.

Tepper does nothing to run the Steelers. He wrote a check and maybe goes to games and parties.

From what I hear Rooney barely runs the team despite majority ownership. I have no insight into teppers role in ownership but I doubt its parties and games. I’m guessing it’s more board room meetings and revenue reports and games.

Also minority owners aren’t so quiet over in Pit:  https://nypost.com/2018/01/16/some-minority-steelers-owners-are-fed-up-with-mike-tomlin/

So would he barely run the team too with majority ownership like Rooney? If that is true.

Have mentioned before: Tepper might want to bring his GM over from the Steelers if he gets the team.

Omar Khan has been one of those perpetual bridesmaids on the GM front (lots of interviews but no offers) so Tepper might be the guy to give him his shot.  Wouldn't be my first choice, mind you, but might be Tepper's.

All this “model franchise” stuff is kinda silly to me man. This team won a Super Bowl once in the past 10 years and perinially underachieves with crazy drama with their players every year with a drama filled coach who has always felt like he was in over his head. The reverence for the Steelers is a little overboard imo.

Hate to tell you but we're not exactly in any position to belittle the Steelers' success.

The Steelers have six trophies and are perennially in the playoffs. We still haven't managed back-to-back winning seasons yet.

Yeah, I mean I knew someone would hop in and say “6 trophies” but the fact remains the dudes basically a minority owner because they needed some cash.... He had nothing to do with any of those championships especially the 4 in the 70’s in what was basically a completely different game.  Also he purchased his 5% in 2009 so he’s come in after all 6 championships. That’s not really my point though. My point is we are a couple plays away from having two Super Bowl championships as well, in the same time period as well(one much more recently). I’d buy the mythology of maybe the patriots but that’s it. The Steelers are just a big name franchise with history from the 70’s who let a running back and a terrible coach dictate what they do year to year at this point. They’re also lucky their QB went on his rape fest pre-Ray Rice or there goes their dynasty of looking great and losIng in the weak AFC every year...

Dont get me wrong the Steelers have been good to great for many years but I just feel like we overrate the hell out of their “culture” and so on.

That's been a long running question: Take the guy from your model team or the guy that's local?

Guess we'll see.

I don't think a 5% ownership stake in the team guarantees he has anything to do with how the org is run or would intend to run the Panthers the same way. Haslam was a Steelers minority owner and he hasn't turned the Browns into a copy of the Steelers org or enjoyed much success.

Give me the guy with an undying desire to win at whatever he does

give me the asshole. I dont want the nice guy. Nice guys finish last. At least in poo that doesnt matter much in the grand scheme of things like a damn game.

Not sure the guy that has made billions in debt collection can be cast as a "nice guy". Tepper has a more outgoing personality but I don't think that means Navarro has any less killer instinct.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
