Richardson might.

He could see forcing them to have to vote on him as a form of payback, a way of making them "look him in the eye" so to speak.

We already know he doesn't believe he did anything wrong.

No chance. He's in frail health as it is and that would be a long drawn out, public battle that would be excruciating for someone like JR. If JR was Mark Cuban's age then maybe he'd try to fight that battle but JR has no reason to even attempt that at this point. He may very well be trying to make some last ditch moves to further get what he wants or to spite the league but there is no way in hell he takes it as far as trying to take on the league in a legal battle for ownership.

His body is in frail health. His ego is in top condition.

Gantt pointed out that Richardson had been saying to several people that he didn't have to sell the team. He's bitter and angry that things haven't gone like he wants, and he's vindictive enough to fight over it.

I'd add that Richardson is not necessarily all in his right mind at the moment. It's hard to judge him by logic when he may not be completely logical.

This 100000,

I've been saying for a while that I felt JR was going to drag this out and fight it. Maybe even to the point of a vote. A bunch of the owners dont think he did anything wrong much less himself. So he thinks he can win that vote because of that.

Oy.

Gotta believe Richardson retaining ownership after all this would be an absolute PR nightmare for the NFL.

There'd probably be an awful lot of arm-twisting in that vote.

It would be a PR nightmare and you could be sure that owners like Kraft and Jones would say yes to forcing him out but there's a large portion of owners like McNair in Houston that would likely vote no.

Even with all the bad PR for JR, hes got a lot of power right now in the sale process

I'm honestly not sure they could get a majority 2/3rds vote to force him out.

There's a reason that SI piece was a letter and McNair was called out in that article has having been personally addressed by her.

Or, it could just be that someone upped their anti to throw a monkey wrench into what was thought to be a done deal.

The fact that Kestenbaum was in town, yet Navarro has been assumed to be the likely winner by many may indicate that Kestenbaum increased his offer above Navarro's.  If so, then it makes sense that JR will wait and see if this turns into a full out bidding war.

I really don't see anything to indicate that this is just JR being an ass.  Gantt's report did indicate that there is some friction, but it didn't sound anything like all out war.  I think this is just JR trying to negotiate the best deal possible...along with having some emotional difficulty letting go of something he built from the ground up.

I tend to agree with this. Seems like everyone else just assumes the worst about everything. He wanted 3M for the team and only got 2.6(which is enough especially with it being Navarro who made the bid) to me he’s just taking his sweet ass time so he can get a couple more dollars out of the new ownership group. And if he sells to Kestenbaum or Tepper over Navarro he really doesent give a poo about Charlotte/Carolinas, just his ego. Because he will never live to spend a quarter of this money anyways. I can’t wait for this crap to be over.

If we were just talking about a week or two delay, maybe some additional time to finish the vetting process or some such, I'd probably think it was something simple.

Talk about the sale itself not even being done till after the meetings, though? Yeah, that makes me nervous.

Makes me nervous too but not that he’s gonna force himself to be voted out. If he didn’t want to sell he wouldent of went through all the steps with the letter, banks, visits, second visits etc... Also I think the timeline was basically last Monday. So we are basically talking about a one or two week delays of now. If he doesent pick someone soonish(next ten days) then I’ll be in on the “JR’s holding the team hostage” train. Believe me I’m frustrated too but I think the signs are pointing to him trying to drive the price up and it doesent seem to be going up. Navarro may of been better served not to of blown his wad early on and slowly increased to make Jerry feel like all the wiggle room was fine. Kestenbaum scares the poo out of me because we are the easiest franchise to move in sports because of our stadium deal.

Richardson didn't really do any of that stuff though.  The law firm handling the sale did.

And again, I think you have to consider we're dealing with someone of whom it's been said that his mind isn't what it once was.  That's the problem with applying logic.  Richardson may not be completely logical anymore.
