The Run and Shoot

I think there is a very good chance of this happening but it isnt the Run N Shoot a variant of Air Coryell?

I expect us to see a variety of 4 WR and 1 RB formations but more often than not Olsen will always be on the field.

Probably closer to WCO in my opinion (that could be debated) but I think of it as its own animal.

I agree the 1 back, 4 receiver set could be good for us.

Newton would be great in that type of offense.  Not sure how effective it would be with the speed of today's linebackers though.

Understood, but would you not agree Newton works best with an up tempo style?

I'm thinking a lot about scheme fit in this scenario, and when I look at what we have on offense, this is the kind of attack I imagine.

If I am not mistaken, the WCO was the orginal Air Coryell and Don Coryell made some modifications to WCO and labeled in Air Coryell.

Difference being underneath routes vs deep routes, and single backs vs two backs.

Correct me if I am wrong.... Don Coryell is kinda "The Don" of offenses.

I'd be happy to see the Panthers just roll Cam out of the pocket sometimes to get away from pressure. Shula didn't seem to know that existed.

This kind of attack allows for that, and frankly a fair amount of improv on the part of the QB.

Picture Newton doing that.

The Coryell was originally referred to as The West Coast Offense before Bill Walsh co-opted the term for his attack.

And yeah, Coryell was a genius.

I love Cam, but we know as fans that rolling out wasn't his best attribute when it came to accuracy.

I can think of many throws that were wildly thrown while rolling out.... So I am lightly concerned, but I believe they can fix this.

Shula's issue was that he just avoided Cam's weaknesses as opposed to fixing them.

Cam is quite accurate on the move.

Unfortunately, what we've seen from Cam in the past is he's being flushed out of the pocket under duress.

That is not the same as designed roll out.

Not to say you are wrong, but do you recall the goal line play that was a design rollout to CMC in the flat and he threw it at his feet?

Or in 2016 the rollout to the weak side and he threw the ball to dickson wide open in the end zone and it was short

These are top of mind, and as seldom as we ran rollouts (which I think that Cam is not strong at this currently) his accuracy was definitely glaring.

I can search for more issues with his rollouts, but I think you can recall what I am speaking of.

Run and shoot died out as a complete offense but there are still some elements alive.

Brady/Belichick actually got the optional routes from Warren Moon n co. It's very complex for a wr to grasp, they have to be on the same page as qb and read defense a bit too.
