I remember trading the 2011 33rd pick for Armanti Edwards

I remember trading a 1st for Everrett Brown

Remember, Godfrey and Sherod Martin

Shelton

The list goes on.

Seeing him skip over guys at position of need that most have projected much high makes me nervous.

Guys like Jackson who was projected a 4th until he ran his combine 40 over the Reids and Oliver who most thought were going in the 1st

The carter who most didnt think would be drafted over a Jamarco James who mpst thought was going rds 2-3

I hope he proves me wrong but im not seeing it and with his history makes me nervous as he11

....this draft solidifies the cringe worth feelings I had when they said Martys back...

This is the first Hurney draft I paid close attention to.  I'm skeptical about several of these picks. There's definitely a cuteness or high optimism that these picks will overachieve...

Our track record of developing young guys at several positions is pretty lousy. So that's worrying....

I was pleasantly surprised by Hurney's patience though. That's a change.

Most are saying hes had a good draft.

CBS has given the Panthers draft multiple A's, with lowest grade a C+.

Grades from today B, A, C+.

NFL network gave the Panthers an A on the first three picks. Havent seen grades for today.

NFL Network was handing out As like Oprah, however.

(Stole that line from Twitter, but it's totally the truth.)

But yeah, the grades I've seen have been pretty positive.

My first Hurney draft.  All and all I would say it was on par with last years draft and substantially better than two years ago.  Injuries hurt the last two drafts.  This year if Samuel and Butler shine, all will be forgiven.

You must not forget how people here were mad when we double dipped on DTs that year.

Nobody was mad. We were happy as fug. We had one DT worthy of an NFL roster going into that draft: Dwan Edwards.

The other two on the roster were Fua and Ron Edwards, who lasted like 25 minutes into offseason workouts before he was done for the year in 2011, then retired before dealing with another offseason program in 2013.

Been here for all of Hurneys drafts. It's the same staff minus a few people like Beane scouting and FO for all of Riveras drafts.

Might say the biggest difference is Hurney probably gives Rivera and the other coaches more weight during the draft process.

That's because he doesn't know poo about evaluating players.

I'm hoping I'm wrong, but this draft mirrored so many of Hurney's past drafts, it was disturbingly similar in terms of positions and makeup of each pick.

Moore - Hurney is always money with the first pick.  I agree Moore could be our best receiver ever outside of Smitty.

Jackson - Undersized, aggressive corner.  Past comps build/play style: Ricky Manning Jr., Richard Marshall.

Gaulden - CB to Safety convert that lacks range and/or pop.  Comps: Godfrey, Sherrod Martin.

Thomas - Developmental TE with promising potential and good measurables.  Comps: Michael Gaines, Mike Seidman, Jeff King, Barnidge.

Haynes - Grossly undersized, athletic pass rushing college DE that has very little chance of replicating similar success in the pros due to slight frame and lack of versatility.  Comps: Spinning Top, Hilee Taylor, Eric Norwood

All the LBs - LOL.  Go look...  too many comps to list.

Norton - Plugger...  also a lengthy comp list.

The majority of all of the players drafted for every team is not going to do poo.

People act like some of those early 10s Seahawks drafts are the norm around the league.

the draft may save your team if you are looking for a QB and have a pick to get one. Teams are built in FA.

Bottom line is there is not enough data to evaluate the draft.  Even the analysts are just comparing the pick against where they had them - thats it, but what I like is the killer instinct and pride that a lot of the picks have this year.  I think this was a solid haul of promising talent.

Reid and Oliver were the same as Jackson. Jackson actually was a legitimate 2nd or 3rd. Combine helped his stock. Oliver and Hughes came out of nowhere. And Reid was projected like a 3rd or 4th. Stop complaining
