A theory on the team sale (that you may not like)

Sabates disappears and is irrelevant, and now he's back again? Sounds like a stunt to get his name back out there in the spot light.

I think this ultimately stems back to the biggest ego of them all...Jerry. My tinfoil hat tells me he's only delaying this to get one more season out of it. He doesn't want to let it go, and will pull any stunt he can to delay the process. He can say all day long that it's for a higher bid, but I just don't buy it.

From what I've been able to piece together, it sounds like his original bid was built around a majority owner that Sabates thought would sign on, but who never did.

Since then, he's been trying to latch on with one of the existing bidders, all of whom have been willing to talk to him except Navarro. Unfortunately for Sabates, Navarro turned out to be the highest bidder.

So now, since he can't hitch a ride on Navarro's bandwagon, he's hoping to get a foot in the door by other means.

nail on the head. I KNEW this would be happening, might not even be ego, just cold feet.

Granted, dual ownership works for the Giants, but I'm not a fan of the idea.

Neither is the NFL, but they are big fans of David Tepper...and his money.

But you have to have one controlling owner, right?

I know with multiple people, you have to have one person that owns at least 30%.

If there are just two, then I suppose it could be split 50-50.

Like I said, I'm not a big fan of the idea.

Or is Felix sabotaging Navarro, because his ego was hurt when his phone calls were ignored.

Felix has been in Jerry's ear for a long time now...maybe it's not the NFL that doesn't want Navarro.

That could play into it too.

I know Felix wants in, and Navarro seems to be the only one who won't let him in (unknown why, since if I recall correctly they were both associated with Chip Ganassi racing).

If this works, he could get the minority ownership he wants while also thumbing his nose at Navarro.

If Tepper has as much money as Sebates is saying he does, why would he want to partner up with anyone?  The dude has brass balls on his desk, he's not asking anyone for help.

Because he's cheap.

He's the richest bidder but he lowballed the bid.

I don’t think he was taking about arranging a partnership with Tepper. During the interview he corrected Kroeger on Tepper’s net worth, which is enough to purchase without a partner.

He did, but also later talked about trying to get two guys to partner together on a bid.

He considered that to be the best possible option. Objectively, I don't see any real logic to that being a superior choice. But if it's a choice that gets him in the door when others won't, then he could easily see it that way.

And as mentioned, Tepper lowballed the bid and has steadfastly refused to go higher. This would be a way for him to win the sale without spending any more money.

Maybe you’re right - he did say he thinks Jerry and the NFL will accept the highest bid, not the person who fits what Jerry wants. If Tepper lowballed and Navarro is the lead bidder, your theory would make sense.

I'm now rooting for Navarro out of my spite for Sabates

Why do some people dislike Sabates on a personal level? Is it because his viewpoints on the HB2 thing? Not wanting to derail the topic at all but have read similar comments to yours and I'm admittedly ignorant to the reasons behind them.
