A theory on the team sale (that you may not like)

I think you all are so starved for information, that you don't stop to consider that most of it is coming from a notorious bullshit artist like Sabates. He's always been a small time player with big time aspirations. He's not the gatekeeper to anything. The people that really know what's going on aren't talking to WFNZ. That's why they're giving a guy who hasn't been relevant in Charlotte sports since the 90s all of this airtime.

Tepper cheaping out for the senior citizen discount tells me all I need to know. Wake me up when whichever goon comes out on top.

It's not guaranteed that he'd cheap out when it comes to contracts, but I think everybody would go in with that expectation. Given his character, it's not exactly a stretch.

Have said it before: People who didn't like Dave Gettleman are likely to absolutely loathe David Tepper.

That's all understood.

The problem is that Kestenbaum confirmed having met with him, and his story of dinner with Tepper is highly plausible. Add in that I don't think he was lying about getting frozen out by Ben Navarro.

Felix may be full of it, but to assume everything he says is untrue would be a mistake, especially given that there's outside confirmation on part of it.

Felix Sabates is a rich 'hanger on' so him meeting with Kestenbaum and Tepper is unsurprising. I wonder who reached out to who though...

Felix did the "reaching" and said so himself a while back.

Sabates had also previously stated that he knew David Tepper and Ben Navarro would keep the team in Charlotte. After their meeting, Alan Kestenbaum made the same pledge.

Or forcing them to actually vote him out, a scenario which likely also ends in Ben Navarro losing.

Richardson's ego hasn't exactly helped him make the best decisions of late. This is probably no exception.

I'd prefer he just sell to Navarro and be done with it.

No question that JJR these days is a totally different man from the one who founded this team. I honestly don't think he's playing with all his marbles anymore. It's very sad to watch him go out like this. Being a former player, you have to wonder if CTE has played a part in his decline.

Some of our resident guys with friends on the inside have said that Richardson has been losing it for a while now. It's also been reported that he still doesn't believe he did anything wrong and he's resentful of the league for the way they've handled this.

I think in his mind, making them vote on him would be forcing them to "look him in the eye" as it were.

Quite probably JR is suffering from long term post operative cognitive dysfunction.  It is very common in elderly persons who have heart surgery.

I can't believe Felix brought Millennials into this...

I'm a millennial (by age anyway, 29) and I want to continue playing in BofA.

I listened to this section live and I can't remember who said it, but someone brought up the point that we have Spectrum Arena for concerts and NCAA tournaments hence we don't need a new stadium. They're not wrong, but I know the end goal is the super bowl.

I have been thinking about this more and more and it just doesn't add up that Tepper would consider a partner.  Adding another investor just to get to Navarro's number doesn't help Tepper, in fact it actually hurts him.  (Now I'm not saying Tepper won't have partners, but I am saying he won't take one on to take him over the top.)

If Tepper bids 2.3b and JR says "NO cheapskate its 2.65" there is no world where Tepper says ok well Kestenbaum can go in halvsies and we will pay 2.65b.  Remember this is a business deal not an auction for a toy for Tepper.  Teppers final bid is exactly what he thinks is the max value of the Carolina Panthers franchise is.  If he accepts a partner and together they pay an extra 350m then each partner will have overpaid by 175m in Teppers eyes.  This dude balked at a 100$ dinner costing 200$, you think he is going to over pay 100-300m?  Nope.

Now Rubin and Kestenbaum may be a different story.  We are dealing with guys who may be more interested in owning a team than a conservative valuation.  If each can't afford 2.5-2.8b but together they can and are willing to perhaps overvalue the team then thats a possibility.

This is all a game to Felix and I am sure there is some truth to his statements but until something materializes its worthless albeit interesting.

This really really irks me... Sabates has no business trying to meddle in the business of the team sale. He don't give a fug if the team stays in Charlotte or not. He don't care if it is domed room or not. All he cares about is the bottom line.... Money. I swear if he is the sole reason why the stadium moves, im gunna be pissed. Moving the stadium does not help the Carolina's one bit. In Fact, it hurts both states if they move the stadium. Leave the stadium were it is..... raze a few vacant lots.... build a parking deck.... call it a day.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
